Adoption of the Act of National Independence

ActNationalIndependenceNovember 6

This Day acknowledges the signing of the first legal document declaring the separation of “New Spain” from Spanish rule.

The Congress of Chilpancingo was a meeting held in Chilpancingo Guerrero in  September  1813. (After the execution of founders, Miguel Hidalgo and Ignacio Allende, José María Morelos, became the leader of the independence movement) Morelos presided over the meeting a subsequent constitution and declaration of independence.

This established legislative, executive and judicial branches of the government. While the congress declared respect for personal property, it confiscated the property of the Spaniards.  It abolished slavery and the class system, established the name of “American” for all Mexican born people and abolished tributes, monopolies and torture.
