Jaltemba News & Notes

Hinde y Jaimies – Full speed ahead for grand reopening November 20th

Nothing could be finer than a fish taco after a hard morning at the Thursday Market…and for those of us who make the Jaltemba Bay area our home, the best place to get a fish or camarón taco has been Hinde y Jaime.

Closed since last May, the restaurant is moving down the Avenida, one block past the Avenida Restaurant on the left hand side.

Much of the furnishings will be same including the famous bar, but the restaurant itself is in excellent shape with new restrooms (three of them) fresh paint and  with all the windows and location much more light enters the facilities.   Closer to the beach, the patrons can expect to be cooled by the breezes from the sea.

As of yesterday, the only holdup has been the placement of the bar…oops they will have to move it again.   Unfortunately for those of us who like to play a game of pool, Jaimie is having a hard time finding a place for it in the restaurant as the space is not as big as the former location.  Jaime says he is still working on it…but his eyes showed a little disappointment.

Patty is still attending University in PV but hopes to be finished in December to help out and remain one of the friendliest bartenders in the area.

Still shooting for November 20th   . Revolution Day. Can’t wait.

Scorpions in the Area

Just the other evening in the Jaltemba Express Office, a large scorpion skitted across the floor. The office was well lit and free from debris and other usual hiding spots. It was captured by one of our reporters in a large pina colada glass that just happened to be close by.

Gentle reminder.  Particularly for those who are new to the area or live in RVs.

When you live in paradise, you can easily put down your guard and forget that we have a few little critters. Especially the poisonous kind.  Always remember to give your shoes a shake before putting them on …scorpions are in the area and they love the warmth and moisture of our shoes and beach towels that are left outside.

Editors Note: The Express was started 2 years ago as a newspaper for the La Penita RV Resort and certainly we have many readers, contributors and friends in the Park. We have been persuaded this year to expand our coverage to the greater community in the Bay area and offer the same "almost daily" service we have for the smaller group. Please consider the Jaltemba Express your community newspaper and contribute news, stories and ideas that interest you from you hamlet in paradise.

Restaurant Review

THE POOLSIDE RESTAURANT AT LA PENITA RV RESORT
Reviewed by the "Kitchen Goddess"  for Jaltemba Express

Located in the jungle of La Penita, The Poolside Restaurant is the place to see and be seen on Sunday evenings. You'll dine al fresco at the outdoor patio beside the glistening blue waters of the pool.  The Poolside Restaurant is a La Penita standout.

Famous for it's surly wait staff and hot cooks, wonderful Sam's Club burgers and Johnsonville Brats, and of course the great condiments served in the ever delightful Tupperware bowls.

It's one of the few restaurants around Jaltemba Bay that serves both sautéed and freshly cut onions.  The ice berg lettuce is always crunchy, the tomatoes sublime, and the rolls always have the exact amount of sogginess to make it a challenge to eat you hamburger.  Sometimes you have to be careful when the wait staff asks questions.  The question for this particular evening was "would you like a big bun or a little bun."  Be careful when you answer because your spouse might be standing right beside you.  But every good restaurant presents challenges and the Poolside Restaurant does it with class.

An integral part of this restaurant experience is the wait staff.   They smile sometimes,  dance around one another and sometimes even with one another. They drink on the job, and forget to put out the condiments.  That's fine with us, because we know this is the first hamburgesa night of the season and everyone is a little out of practice.  We forgive their dancing and drinking on the job, but just don't stop being surly, it adds to the ambiance.  We love surly.  We also love those little hot cooks Mr. Barry and Mr. Ross, they hold a spatula with such a degree of authority.
