Raffle for Beautiful Hammocks
Donation to the Cause
Hala Hazzi, of "Hamaca Maya" (Mayan Hammocks) in La Penita, has donated a beautiful, hand-made Mayan hammock. These beautiful hammocks are hand woven by the Mayan Indians over a period of 10 to 14 days per hammock. They are not your typical, rough Mexican hammocks. They are incredibly soft, yet strong, and are made with 80% nylon and 20% silk, which gives them their softness . . . and they come in beautiful, rich colors.

In addition to Hala donating the hammock, she has also donated a beautiful hammock chair, also hand woven, which also comes in beautiful, rich colors. They are well built and will last a very long time.

***All proceeds will go to the Spay and Neuter Clinic. Tickets will be 50 pesos each. The hammock will be raffled at 6pm at Hamburger Sunday at the la Peņita Trailer Park and the hammock chair will be raffled at 6pm at Taco Tuesday. again at the La Peņita Trailer park***

The hammock and hammock chair will be on display near the office. If you prefer a color other than the ones we have on display, Hala will let you pick another hammock or hammock chair of your choice. Her selection in unbelievable!

Hala sells her hammock for an unbelievably low price of $590 pesos, and the hammock chairs are $390 pesos. (A store in Sayulita sells these same Mayan hammocks for over $100 dollars). If you are interested in purchasing a hammock or chair hammock, just in case you don't win the raffle, you may purchase them in La Penita and Hala will donate $30 pesos to the Spay and Neuter Clinic for each purchase, so please identify yourself as a La Penita Trailer Park resident.

We strongly recommend you visit Hala's store, "Hamaca Maya". It's big and beautiful, and it has a huge selection of colorful hammocks and hammock chairs. To get there turn right at the main light heading into the center of town...go to the very end which is at Aveneda Restaurant...just to the left and just a few doors behind the restuarant is Hala's store, "Hamaca Maya".

If you have any questions about the Spay and Neuter Clinic or the hammocks, contact Melanie at
valleydog@msn.com or she is located on the hill next to the Bell's. Ricardo will be offering some great fixins along with the traditiional turkey for Thanksgiving dinnerThank you so much for your support!!!

Ricardo's Annual Thanksgiving Feast

Once in while, even though we are in paradise, there are certain things that we miss from back home.  One of those things is a good old fashioned American thanksgiving dinner.  Look no further this Thanksgiving than Ricardo’s Italian Restaurant.  That’s right Ricardo is shutting down his pizza oven and putting on a good old fashioned thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins for only 140 pesos.

Dinner starts at 4:30 on Thanksgiving Day.  First come first Serve basis, but Ricardo promises to have more turkey than you can shake a fork at.

Ms Maneras

Dear Ms Maneras,

I am wondering if it is customary to tip taxis here in Mexico. I tip them at home but have heard it is not really required here. Whatz the drill.

When I was touring in Guadalajara the taxi driver looked at the fare I handed him and demanded a tip. When I shook my head, he rubbed his elbow and cursed as he drove off.

Dear Jack,

Ms Maneras refers to guidebooks when traveling or staying in a foreign destination. Lonely Planet says that "taxi drivers don't generally expect tips unless they provide some special service." Another source, Frommers says "it is not customary to tip taxi drivers, unless they are hired by the hour or provide touring or other special services."

Ms Maneras generally has a number of parcels that she requires help with so therefore tips accordingly. The reality is that many taxi drivers expect a tip from foreigners. However it is rude to ask for a tip and certainly the drivers response, rubbing his elbow, a Mexican gesture for cheapskate - was not flattering. Cursing of course is uncalled for under any circumstances.

Ms Maneras

Ms M

Dear Ms Maneras,

Please help. How do I tell my friends, the local ones, not to just drop in. I have no phone. It really bugs me that they expect me to drop everything I am doing and visit. Sometimes I get so mad that I find it hard to be civil. Should I ask them to email me before a visit or should I just point blank ask them to leave.

Frank

Dear Frank,

Ms Maneras believes that it is polite and customary to phone before you visit someone. Under the present circumstances, however, that is impossible. The next time your visitors arrive unannounced, explain what you are doing or planning in the next hour and explain that your preference is that they would contact you in advance or make a predetermined date and time. For example "I am very disappointed I can't visit with you now as I must go to town to do my chores. I would hate this to happen again so would it be possible for you to email me before you come all this way?

Or conversely you COULD LIGHTEN UP. If little things in paradise drive you nuts, such as an unexpected guest, try to get over it. Life is great. You are blessed to be living here in Jaltemba Bay. Be thankful every minute you have friends that want your company....Sounds to me like you are a walking wedgie and need to loosen up.

Ms Maneras

Ms M

Dear Ms Maneras,

I am from Vegas but live here full-time. My friend has a restaurant and occasionally I work for him when his staff is sick or didn't show up. I don't get paid and I am not taking anyone's job and I donate the tips to the kitchen staff. Quite simply I am helping out a friend.

My problem is that when people I know socially come into his restaurant, they do a double take and act like they don't know me, or worse, treat me very poorly. They are arrogant and demanding when ordering and act as if I was somehow beneath them. What should I do?

Beth

Dear Beth,

Ms Maneras is shocked at the way some people treat restaurant staff and believes this treatment belies their upbringing.

You can never say or do anything to these people to halt their boorish behavior, my dear, so continue assisting your friend occasionally. They obviously have not been brought up well and mannered. They do not know what a great friend they have lost in you.

Ms Maneras

Better Homes & RV's

Casa de Los Amigos
Casa de los Amigos is one of the most romantic bed and breakfasts in the country. Perched on a small jetty overlooking Jaltemba Bay, you can see the island and ocean from every private guest room, common rooms and gracious patio.
Bill and I knocked on the door and were greeted by Rosalie Hope, the owner and operator of Casa de Los Amigos. The home, designed by Salvador Perez a well-know Puerto Vallarta Architect and built in 1986, is a Moorish Style Inn; comfortable and understated. Hope is a professional innkeeper and has owned and operated inns for over 20 years, both here and in California and her warmth and experience shows. We were invited in and given a small tour around the living area before being ushered out to the deck and Happy Hour with the other guests.
The Inn is tastefully decorated with items found throughout the area. Hope has taken particular care in assembling an artistic collection of art and objects and you could spend hours exploring any of the rooms and admiring the handiwork and talent of the artists and craftsmen. The living room has cozy comfortable chairs and couches, just perfect for conversation amongst guests or snuggling up in to read a book. The large expansive dining table is large enough for a sit down dinner for all the guests, but I confess I am drawn to the outdoor patio to sit outside with a beverage and enjoy the expansive view.
We chat with guests and are treated to cocktails and special treats and tastes served from the kitchen. The conversation is comfortable and fun and Hope leads, like a good conductor, without anyone really noticing. Special guests are often invited to mingle with the clients and to add their experiences and vacation to the area.
We are impressed by Hope's hospitality and warmth. Hope genuinely cares about her guests experiences to the area and offers many personalized services to make them at ease or to enhance their vacation.
There are 3 guests rooms in the Inn. Large and comfortable beds are dressed with impeccable linens; walls with original art. The bathrooms are huge and unlike most Mexican Inns has large tiled bathtubs. Huge tiled bathtubs.
Each room has a private deck and tasteful lounge furniture. The views, like the patio below, offer some of the best in the area; ocean waves hitting the rocks below a hundred or so feet from the Inn. You can hear the waves from every deck.
Breakfast is served every morning again on the patio. Guests leisurely awake and migrate outside for small talk, coffee and a tasteful unique breakfast.
Casa de Los Amigos is the perfect place for a romantic weekend, anniversary or birthday gift. If relatives are planning a visit and require special attention, this is the place.
