Guadalajara's Famed Folklorico Bill Bell Photo Click to view largerWant to Go to Guadalajara?
A number of great people are organizing an independent trip to Guadalajara. They are looking for others that wish to join them to keep the costs low and to have a fun time exploring the City. The plan is to leave La Penita on this coming Thursday and stay 4 nights in the city. They plan to make reservations and stay at the historic Hotel Frances in Centro - walking distance to the plazas, cathedral, mariachi square and more. This is a great group of fun loving folks that would welcome anyone who wishes to come along and join in. Singles are very welcome. Contact them soon as it is less than a week before the trip!Just one of the many wonderful costumes that the children of Jaltemba display during the Revolution Day parade Bill Bell Photograph

Revolution Day Approaches
Revolution Day Celebrates the Revolution of 1910. Many towns in Mexico celebrate the holiday with parties and a parade. Our community has a very lively parade in La Peņita every year.
The center of action is of course the Avenida. Children in costumes depicting characters from the revolution, march down and around the Avenida. The parade begins at 9 am (although of course it is often late) and lasts approximately 2 - 4 hours.
The event is a photographers delight. Bring lawn chairs and cameras. Arrive early to park and get a good spot. Take plenty of pictures and send them to bill@ontheroadin.com.

Hinde y Jaime's
It's official. Hinde says that she is opening whether they are ready or not this Monday on Revolution Day. The Building looks great and Jaime is working on the bar. The signs are painted on the wall. The bookshelves are up and the books are ready for trading. We are all waiting for those shrimp and fish tacos that have become a Jaltemba Legend.

Letters to the Editor

Editor,
I like getting the newsletter, but I have a small problem with it....  There are lots of places where it says click here for whatever, but all I seem to get is the text with no actual link.  Am I doing something wrong....
Thanks
Karen
(Editors Note: No Karen you aren't doing anything wrong. People have different email programs. Security settings on computers are often set very high. There is a lot of problems sending an on-line newspaper. The virtual delivery boy is very lazy and isn't delivering on time. To avoid these problems we strongly suggest you go to the online version and make it a bookmark. http://www.ontheroadin.com/express/express1.htm
You should be able to get your news by 7 or 8 every day and have the links and pictures at the click of your mouse. )

Editor,
One posting for the newsletter, weekly or every few days.
If you have friends or family wanting to get out of the nasty weather at home, and who would like a break in the sun, check out the deals on www.selloffvacations.com
For air only, click on the selloffairfares link on the upper left side, then click on discount airfares, then departure city (Vancouver, etc). for example, last minute air this week is $289 plus tax.
For those wanting all-inclusive:  in the selloffvacations.com site, click on "last minute", change the departure city to "Vancouver" or whichever you need, then click under $1,000 and all-inclusive buttons.  Just so happens this weeks top of the list is--- Decameron Los Cocos.   So, they get the free transfers included, room to stay, a walk down the beach to join us for tacos or burgers. Price this week was $497 plus tax.
Watch the link closer to Christmas for those wanting to get family down for a get-together.
Rob

Dot and Bill,
Thank you so very much for the great service you provide through the local newsletter, and the photos have been awesome.

Hello,
I did not meet you last winter but your inputs about La Peņita helped inspire a few of us to visit. I hope to get back this winter, and would love to have the opportunity to spend winters in the area living and working on community based projects. The dry sunny days are great for paper mache...see my website-- www.armofthesea.org ( I am co director of a mask and puppet theater called ARM of The Sea Theater - an arts ecology, and activism education and arts organization that my husband and I started in 1982) website can give some insights if you pluck around on it..
Regards,
Marlena Marallo

Dot & Bill,
Great to see you are doing the paper again - the pictures and weather reports certainly make us wish we were there with you - will see you early in January - keep the cerveza cold!

Mmmmmm....good. Lupita is well known to most of us who live in the area, often giving out advice on the Mexican bureaucracy.  But it is her delicious pastries that keep us coming back to her shop on the Avenida.  One block from the highway on the left hand side.  Excellent.

SOUTHERN GRANDMA - submitted by Friedl Fuller

Lawyers should never ask a Southern grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer. In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?" She responded, "Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you."

The lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?" She again replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him."

The defense attorney almost died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, "If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you to the electric chair."
