Jaltemba News & Notes

Oaxaca Artisans Sell their Work Locally - A group of Oaxacan artisans are here in the Jaltemba Bay area selling their hand crafted rugs. While normally the artists stay in Oaxaca State to sell their ware, their capital city is torn by demonstrations and violence. They have been forced to take to the road and sell their rugs locally to support themselves.
The group uses traditional methods to card and spin the wool. They use insects and plants to die the fibers before hand weaving the magnificent designs by hand. Each rug is unique, preserving the traditional handcrafted techniques passed down by generations.
An Exhibition and sale will take place at the La Peñita RV Resort and Spa on Wednesday November 29 at 11 am at the Palapa. A spokesperson from the group will give a talk and demonstration of some of the processes used to create the rugs. Admission is free and the general public is welcome. Please come and support Oaxacan artisans.

Letters to the Editor
Editor,
We found a lovely home for Milagrosita (small miracle) at Posada Las Flores in Las Ayalos. Anna instantly fell in love with her.   Twice Celia and I shared tears over the parting - we were getting a bit sappy after the long hours!  If my cat Dooley was not so Muy Bravo I would have kept this little dog for myself.  I packed her about peeking out of my purse for half a day yesterday while cleaning up after the vet clinic.  Need some sleep........and VINO TINTO.........
Heather,
The pic is of Rob & I with the Vets, Yolanda & Ester and our translator and now vet tech Manuelo.  Sydney the OR nurse is missing - she kept us all in line.

Editor,
The unexpected gift for me was working along side very dedicated and committed people whom I may have never met if it was not for the clinic. We had volunteers from 11 years old to 78 years old, American, Canadian and Mexican nationalities.  I have so much respect for those who gave so much to help us in so many ways. It just would not have been possible without these wonderful folks. Thank you!
Jim and I are taking the vets along with their equipment to Melaque tomorrow to begin another clinic.   Two of our volunteers have offered to help the clinic there as well.
Please forgive this short note but will write again when we catch our breath.
Lin Chimes

I am looking for someone that resides in either Canada/US that will  be coming to our area in December. I would like to forward a small  mailing envelope to them for delivery to me here at the La Penita RV  Park (LPRVP). The contents will be bills and general correspondence.  The envelope can be opened and inspected if there are any concerns regarding contraband.

Alicia's Restaurant
Want to to just kick back and have a few cervesas on the beach and a great meal of fried shrimp?  Then Alicia's Restaurant in Guayabitos is the perfect spot to sit under a palapa and watch the world go by.  Alicia is very friendly and always helpful.
Located on the Beach in Rincon de Guayabitos, right beside Tequila Willies. When we have caught a big fish or bargained for one with the fishermen, Alicia has filleted and refrigerated the fillets while we sit and enjoy our cervesas. A tip for the service is welcome.

Humor

A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York the day before Christmas and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing;  forty-five years of misery is enough."

"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says.  "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her."

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.  "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this,"

She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced.  Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then,  don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife.  "Okay," he says, "they're coming for Christmas and paying their own way."

Horseback Riding Tours of the Area
Want to explore the back hills by horseback? Then these are the tours for you. The tours are scheduled on Fridays beginning on November 24 or can be arranged privately for a group.
Everyone meets at the crucero of the 200 and Ursulo Galvan.  we then take a drive through the farming country to the Rancho Guadalupe for a wonderful breakfast of Mexican tacos. Make your own fresh tortillas if you want.  We then meet our horse friends for the day and begin the trip.
We have designed both easy and semi difficult trips depending on people's desires.  The easier trips are a combination of farmlands, riverbeds and roads, lots of scenery and plant and animal life. These trips are from 2 to 3 hours long. The more difficult trip consists of roads, farmlands, and trails which lead up and over a ridge and down to the river and waterfalls and pools.  Somewhat arduous in places but if a person is somewhat familiar with horses, it shouldn't be a problem.  It is lengthy however lasting about 2 and a half hours one way to the cascadas and 2 hours for return.
Upon return we are greeted by a traditional Mexican lunch.  Beer and frescas are available for purchase.
The cost of the trips are 300 pesos for the shorter trips and 400 pesos for the long trip. People should wear long pants and socks.  Bring sunblock and bug dope,  any kind of snacks for the trail, water, camera and binocs.
Organize your own group at least 2 days in advance - Minimum of 4 people and a Maximum of 8. For questions and reservations contact garydorisstackhouse@hotmail.com

Jaltemba Bay and the nearby communities 60 kms North of Puerto Vallarta can now receive their news in English every morning. The Jaltemba Express is sent via email to over 700 people who are living or visiting the communities along the Bay.

One merely clicks the link and is sent to a webpage that gives pictures, daily news, articles and guest columnists.

The “Express” was originally started two years ago by publishers Bill and Dorothy Bell for the La Peñita RV Resort and Spa as a daily newsletter of upcoming events and to spoof the comings and goings of the park and community.

The response and readership grew and the Bell’s this year have decided to expand their community base to include all the neighborhoods along the Bay and to those who will be visiting. “We took a look at who was reading the paper and found that over half were non-RV residents. We decided to expand our coverage” says Dorothy.

The Jaltemba Bay area includes the communities of Los Ayala, Rincon de Guayabitos, La Peñita de Jaltemba and La Colonia de Paraiso; although Bell says that the paper will cover events and activities that exceed those exact boundaries.

“People are interested in day trips and events all over the coast and into the interior. After we ran an article on Guadalajara, a group formed and are taking a bus trip to see the sights of that magnificent city” says Bell.

Guest columnists include Restaurant Reviews from the kitchen Goddess (AKA Lindy Binns) and the irreverent Ms. Maneras – who was fired from the Express two years ago for bad taste and poor manners. She was brought back by popular demand (she has a large family) and will be featured in the Monday, Wednesday and Friday editions.
