The Bridge of Life…Needs Your Help

One of the gringo community’s greatest gifts to this piece of paradise, the bridge of life between Guayabitos and La Peñita, is in dire need of assistance according to long time resident Rocky Garcia. Built three years ago to assist the local population to travel safely between the two communities (estimates range of on past pedestrian deaths vary on the highway but there were many), the bridge is now attracting the use of motorcycles and horses, much to the detriment of those same pedestrians says Garcia.

¨¨There are people who have no respect for what that bridge is there for…They ride their motorcycles and horses over it scaring mothers with little children,¨ Garcia said.

Rocky thinks he has some answers but has called a meeting for everyone concerned to discuss what needs to be done to keep the bridge safe for pedestrians. "One thing we can do is put up proper barriers, but the community should be involved first,¨ Garcia said.

The meeting will be held this Wednesday December 13th at the Tucan Restaurant starting at 6 p.m.,  If you can not make it call Rocky at 045 322’-278-8163

Jaltemba Express Exceeds 1000 Subscribers

Jaltemba Express Publisher Bill Bell was pleased to announce today in Puerto Vallarta that the circulation of the daily newspaper has exceeded the 1000 mark. "We are ecstatic," said Bell. "We started this newspaper to help friends and soon-to-be-discovered friends with their restaurants and events. It has been a wonderful opportunity to become involved in the community."

The Jaltemba Express, affectionately known as the Express began 2 years ago as a newsletter for the La Peñita Resort and Spa to keep up with the park's unbelievably active schedule. The Bells have since expanded their coverage to communities North of Puerto Vallarta on the Nayarit Coast.

The paper is distributed daily over the internet. All ads are free.

Ms Maneras, union representative for the workers, grumbled that while she was "glad that the readership had skyrocketed, again the management have forgotten the workers. Where's the party?"

Advice for Proper Living in Paradise

Dear Ms Maneras,

My neighborhood is overrun with dogs that leave little presents throughout the neighborhood. They are all dog lovers and very nice folks so I don’t want to offend them by mentioning the problem but it is a problem. They go to work all day and leave their babies off the leash so that they know that someone, read me, has to clean it up.

Kids play in the street, often without shoes. What can I do?

Carl

Dear Carl,

Ms Maneras thinks you have a few options.

  1. You can live with it and continue to pick up the mess.
  2. You can mention in passing that they leash their babies
  3. You can pick up the gifts and place them at the owner’s doorstep with a bow.

In any case you are sure NOT to win. Owners know that it is their responsibility to clean up after their pets and unleashed pets are sure to make a mess. They often get offended when you mention it to them. This is neither a satisfactory answer to an ongoing problem but Ms Maneras believes you should go with option 3 when no one is looking…

Ms M

Dear Ms Maneras

I have a Mexican Novio that I adore. The problem is that he snores like a banshee. What can I do?

Terry

Dear Terry,

Ms Maneras thinks you should purchase some earplugs take a stiff shot of tequila for yourself and rest. Repeat every 2 hours or as necessary...

Ms M

Dear Ms Maneras,

I am so embarrassed and angry. I went to a restaurant the other day and went to the ladies room. Yes I know I was supposed to place the paper in the bin but I didn’t. It just doesn’t seem sanitary.

Well to make a long story short, when I flushed the water started overflowing. I tied to get out of the stall but it had locked. The water continued to overflow and soon my sandals and my purse that was lying on the ground got wet and dirty.

I pushed and pushed the door and it finally gave way and I bashed straight into a Mexican woman that was cleaning the washroom.

I was furious and almost crying. The cleaner asked me to remove my sandals outside the washroom and she cleaned them. She took a cloth and washed down my bag.

After I was cleaned and contained myself I returned to my table to finish my dinner.

The food was good – not great – and we left a small tip even though the experience left me angry, dirty and feeling abused.

Should I go see the management and ask for my money back for my dinner?

Shirley from Canada

Dear Shirley from Canada,

Ms Maneras has just finished pouring a loaded coffee and laughing her guts out. When the signs say place the paper in the bins, it means place the paper in the bins. Ask for your money back! GET A GRIP. Small tip? PLEEEEEZ!

Get a reality check. You should have given a very large tip to the cleaner and then another to the management for messing with their plumbing.

I can tell that you aren’t from Hope BC Canada because Shirley, you are far beyond it.

PLACE THE PAPER IN THE BASKET.

Ms M

Horseback Riding Tours of the Area
Want to explore the back hills by horseback? Then these are the tours for you. The tours are scheduled on Fridays beginning on November 24 or can be arranged privately for a group.
Everyone meets at (please note this change!) the Pemex in Lo de Marcos.  we then take a drive through the farming country to the Rancho Guadalupe for a wonderful breakfast of Mexican tacos. Make your own fresh tortillas if you want.  We then meet our horse friends for the day and begin the trip.
We have designed both easy and semi difficult trips depending on people's desires.  The easier trips are a combination of farmlands, riverbeds and roads, lots of scenery and plant and animal life. These trips are from 2 to 3 hours long. The more difficult trip consists of roads, farmlands, and trails which lead up and over a ridge and down to the river and waterfalls and pools.  Somewhat arduous in places but if a person is somewhat familiar with horses, it shouldn't be a problem.  It is lengthy however lasting about 2 and a half hours one way to the cascadas and 2 hours for return.
Upon return we are greeted by a traditional Mexican lunch.  Beer and frescas are available for purchase.
The cost of the trips are 300 pesos for the shorter trips and 400 pesos for the long trip. People should wear long pants and socks.  Bring sun block and bug dope,  any kind of snacks for the trail, water, camera and binocs.
Organize your own group at least 2 days in advance - Minimum of 4 people and a Maximum of 8. For questions and reservations contact garydorisstackhouse@hotmail.com
