The next clinic is set for January 15 to 17. Two Canadian Vets and 3 staff are flying in to provide services to the community.
Oaxaca Rug Artisans a Big Hit in San Pancho
The Oaxaca rug show was very successful. I believe Raul was very happy. He has been asked to participate in the artisan festival in San Pancho Dec 28/29 and 30 and also met an old friend who had purchased rugs from him several years ago who lives in Sayulita. They are going to make arrangements for Raul to have a show in Sayulita also. (Linda Gibbs)

Alta Vista Petroglyphs - Directions & Pictures
The Alta Vista Petroglyphs are in very good condition as compared to some of the sites we are used to on Vancouver Island. There are numerous sites on rocks scattered in the river bed, including the sacrificial alter just to the left and upstream from the waterfall.
To find the Petroglyphs, turn off at the Alta Vista cut-off, which is km 82 on Hwy 200. There is no signage anywhere for this site. Drive approx. 1.7 km/ 1.0 miles toward Alta Vista. Watch for a fairly well used road to the left with barb-wire fencing either side.
Drive another 0.9 km /0.5 miles to a T ,then turn right. Follow the narrow, winding road down the hill, through two barb-wire gates, approx 1.6 km /1.0 miles to a palapa and parking area. Approx 300-400 meter walk to the falls and petroglyphs. This is a fairly winding /narrow road, really not suited for larger vehicles, though two wheel drive would make it.
Cost is 15 peso per person at the gate, open 0900am to 5:00pm Check out the link on the Jaltemba Bay rental site for details of the site including signage /description you will see onsite.

Jaltemba Bay Express Community Challenge Golf Cup
Jaltemba Bay Express is proud to announce the first ever Community Challenge Golf Cup. Well folks it is in the organization stage but already the excitement is beginning to build for the first ever Community Challenge Golf Cup which will pit some of Jaltemba Bay´s best (and worse) against each other in team play.
Golfers in communities from Sayulita to Chacala will be putting together teams for what will prove to be a big showdown this February on the famed golf links Monteon´s Field of Dreams.
Already teams are being organized and La Peņita has secured such famed golfers as Charlie Stone hands Henshaw, and Jaime Chipper Horton to lead their team up against the likes of legendary Lo De Marco great Gary Wolfman Stackhouse´s foursome.
¨Ī´m really excited and I know that¨this is will be one of the best golf events ever,¨ said Horton. Who already is in the stages of getting sponsorship from his community.
¨A great deal of community pride is at stake.¨
Guayabitos famed hole in one king Big Jim is expected to take a lead role in organizing his communities team, while Captain Poncerelli from Chacala despite his own renowned short putting skills will have a hard time coming up with teammates who will be able to match those who are expected to come forth from San Poncho.
The Trailer Park Boys from La Peņita RV Resort and Spa are currently an unknown factor, but if they can keep Jaltemba Bay Publisher Bill Bell from being on their team may prove to be the big surprise of the Challenge Cup.
Keep tuned for more details.

CIRCULATION & SUBSCRIPTIONS
Hola:
Please add me to the subscription list. Thanks.

Editor,
I am appalled by some of your stories, photos, jokes, etc. Isn't this is suppose to be a community newspaper? It's getting a little too trashy for my taste. Just thought you should know. Please take me off your mailing list.

SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC
The Spay Neuter clinic is in need of discarded newspapers to line cages at the next Spay Neuter Clinic. The next clinic is set for January 15 to 17, with two Canadian Vets and three of their staff members flying in to provide their services to the community.
There is a card-board box for throwing your old newspapers in on the bench at the La Peņita Trailer Park office. Also, there is a donation jar there as well for anyone wishing to contribute to this program. Also, we still need a few strong bodies to carry dog on /off Operating Room table. This is a very good and rewarding community service if you have the time January 15-17.
Thanks

Thanks to all those involved in making the pool web cam happen. It's great being able to have a look at everyone enjoying themselves in paradise. I can almost (ALMOST) feel the heat of the tropical sun while I shiver in the cold north.

Turtle Chik and the Art of Political Correctness
In a former life I was an elected School Trustee and Chair of a School Board. Bill was a City Councilor in our town and we traveled the rubber chicken circuit with the best of them. We have worked as senior advisers in many blue chip companies, had dinners with Premieres and Prime Ministers. It was fun at the time, but sometimes you wondered why you were compromising your taste and beliefs. You wondered who it really benefited and what creative spirit it was drowning.
A long time back I was appointed the Hazardous Waste Commissioner of the Province in charge of the Expo Site, Hazardous Waste, Biomedical Waste etc. I remember one Christmas the Minister of the Environment ( John Cashore - a then United Church Minister) calling me in the office and advising me regarding a memo I sent out. I said the "C" word. In fact I signed it, Merry Christmas. The Minister's Assistant explained to me that I really shouldn't say that "C" word as other religions might find it offensive. "Oh Man" I said in exasperation.
"You can't say that either" the aid explained. "Too Sexist."
The point of the story is that we are happy in Mexico being politically incorrect. We can say "Merry Christmas" out loud. We can say "Happy Hanukkah" or anything else we want. We can tell blonde jokes.
We covered the Largest Charitable Event in our community. One of the largest contributors, George from the Hotel California was prodded into wearing a thong over a bet. George raised over $200 for charity for his performance and got a lot of laughs. Tasteless? Trashy? Should we have printed the pictures? Recorded the event?
We didn't move to Mexico to make it Canada or the US. We came down to belly laugh at jokes and have a good time with friends. We also figured we would use our journalistic talents to assist the community by getting the news out and advertising events and businesses in the community. That's what we're doing. When it becomes a job and ceases being fun, we won't do it.
George hosted the event at his hotel and helped raise the grand total of $4,300 for charity. The Jaltemba Express helped publicize that event and we are proud of our contribution.
So Turtle Chik.....get your head out of your shell. The Jaltemba Express is not for the timid. Our intention is not to offend but rather to amuse. You can always subscribe to another newspaper.
Ms Maneras
Dear Ms Maneras,
I am very hurt. I am an editor for a small Community Newspaper and one of my readers called my paper "Trashy." I put a lot of work into the paper and just don't think the comments are fair or even kind-hearted. It kept me awake all night. What should I do?
D in La Peņita
Dear D,
Ms Maneras thinks you should grow up. Kept you up all night? What kind of an idiot are you anyways. Jeesh and get a grip!
You aren't going to please everyone AND if you try, are likely to please no one.
Trashy. My goodness dear. Is it trashy to support a charity event? Raise money for the community?
Ms Maneras kindly thinks you should stay up all night thinking about staff wages and benefits and let sleeping turtles lie....The virtual paperboys haven't seen a pay check in years. The Restaurant Reviewers are eating themselves silly trying to keep up.
My dear get some rest....Rethink your priorities.
Ms M
Dear Ms Maneras,
I want to bring some tequila back home for some of my most discerning clients. I am not sure which brand to buy. Any suggestions?
Keith
Dear Keith,
Drink it. If you like it it's good. If you don't like, it's bad. Discerning client? Hooey. Buy what you like and forget the label.
Ms M
Dear Ms Maneras,
I volunteered for a charity event and when I arrived for a meeting late the organizer got very angry at me. She said I should re-think my commitment. I was late because my ride didn't show up and I had to get a taxi. While I continued to work every day until the event was over, I resented being talked down to and chided in front of everybody.
This has spoiled my experience and I don't think I want to participate any longer.....
Sylvia from Rincon
Dear Sylvia from Rincon,
Many people are committed to a cause and really begin to lose sight that volunteers are a special gift. They become so wound up in the event or activity that they forget that people actually have a life and that life is full of missed rides, problems, and day to day hassles. It has also been Ms Maneras experience that in volunteer organizations, some of the volunteer leaders don't know how to lead that well. Chiding you in front of others is in remarkably bad taste.
I commend you for staying with the program until your commitment was finished. Rethink your participation. If you do not want to be around that particular woman, go elsewhere. There are many good charities - such as the event held at the Hotel California - that welcome all kinds of volunteers. They would appreciate your assistance I am sure.
Ms M

Want to explore the back hills by horseback? Then these are the tours for you. The tours are scheduled on Fridays beginning on November 24 or can be arranged privately for a group.
Everyone meets at (please note this change!) the Pemex in Lo de Marcos. we then take a drive through the farming country to the Rancho Guadalupe for a wonderful breakfast of Mexican tacos. Make your own fresh tortillas if you want. We then meet our horse friends for the day and begin the trip.
We have designed both easy and semi difficult trips depending on people's desires. The easier trips are a combination of farmlands, riverbeds and roads, lots of scenery and plant and animal life. These trips are from | |
