Letters to the Editor

SUBSCRIBES & NOTES

Editor,

Wishing you a merry Christmas, I thank you for publishing my bungalows in your web page.

I have been receiving 2 e-mail from Jaltemba express, I really just need one. I thank you again and have a Merry Christmas.

Allan Da Costa
(Editors Note: Unless you receive them under different names, the virtual paperboys are usually to blame. We do not have control over these guys! Just delete.)

Hi Dot and Bill
Enjoy the express so much. Can you send it to Barbara. She could not be here this year, but would like  to read what is going on. Thank you
Klara

Hey Dot, Bill and family,

Hope you are all having a great Christmas.  It looks as hot and awesome as ever there in the park.  Frank and I enjoyed the pixs of the carolling last nite, we both realized we really missed not being there.

However, the weather here in AB has been great.  We really can't complain about it to much and there hardly is any snow left here at all.

Well just wanted to check in with you.  Wondering how Max and Dylan are doing?  Hope all is well with you - say Hi and Merry Xmas to everyone for
us. See you on the 29th.
Donna and Frank

Editor,

Cheers for a happy, healthy and harmonious new year!
All the best,
Hala

LOST!

Good Morning Dot and Bill,

A member of our party lost his prescription eye glasses at El Tiburon Restaurant last Saturday evening.  They were in a black hard shell case.  Anyone with information can call 327-274-2997.

Thank you,

Bob Tripp

MS Maneras

Dear Ms Maneras,

I was dating this girl in Lo de Marcos and having a great time when all of a sudden I have become inundated with emails such as “Gain 4 inches” and “Viagra on Sale.” Many are infected. I can’t help but feeling she is sending me these messages. How can I make her stop.

Cyber Guy

Dear Cyber Guy,

Yes….Lo de Marcos cyber girls have a habit of…..playing around with the virtual paperboys. Ms Maneras suggests you practice safe cyber habits. Put on those filters. While they won’t protect you completely, they will help.

No point in getting a bug or virus when you are merely experimenting in Cyber space. However the reality is that if you play around, that is exactly what you risk…A bad hard drive that may be un-repairable.

Tell your cyber girl to quit forwarding or risk being blacklisted.

MS M

Dear Ms Maneras,

As you know in Mexico there is a lot of people in need. I am uncomfortable with giving money to street people…in fact they scare me.

My friend calls me cheap. He makes fun of me when I keep walking past beggars with cups extended for a handout. He laughs and makes a scene.

What is a good solution?

Kelly

Dear Kelly,

Uncomfortable with begging and street people? Want to give to a Mexican in need but don’t know how?

My dear this is very easy. Simply determine the charity of your choice and donate. There are perfectly good causes everywhere.

There is the Spay and Neuter Clinics – for example. The Bob and Vickie fund, goes out to an array of Schools and those in need, The Golf Tournament will be donating to Cancer Research…..The list goes on.

Better yet, donate and become involved as a volunteer. Not only will you be contributing financially but you will be contributing YOU. It will surprise you how much that experience will actually effect you.

Be generous.

Dump your “friend”. He sounds like a jerk.

MS M

Dear Ms Maneras,

I am a single woman and want to stay that way for awhile anyway. Unfortunately my couple friends keep trying to line me up with someone even though I tell them I don’t want them to. He’s a nice guy and all but really not my type. Even if he was I am just not interested in a relationship right now.

Sally

Dear Sally,

Ms Maneras has a sure fire solution.

Show up for dinner somewhat drunk. Take along an additional bottle so that you can feel free to continue to drink. Pour yourself on the host. Flirt with him. Fall asleep in the middle of dinner and place your head delicately on your dinner plate as if a pillow.

It is unlikely that you will be invited out for dinner again.

MS M

Community Help
Augustine Leon
Express Readers Donate $495! Wonderful Community Support!

Community Support Update

Augustine Leon has been very sick for 20 years. He used to work as a farm laborer and is now supported only by the good graces of his niece. You have probably seen him around town especially if you drive down the beach road in La Peñita. He is not eligible for IMSS medical care because he is not working. He cannot work because of his appearance and health. This is a vicious circle we would like to break.

His face has open sores and he experiences major digestive problems. Until now he has been unable to afford to go to doctors and follow through with specialists. He also does not understand simple procedures such as taking blood for analysis.

George, of the Hotel California fame, has led the cause to raise money to assist Augustine get medical treatment. The Jaltemba Express Readers have generously responded with just under $500 to assist in this effort. We all thank you. The money is well accounted for and George has strict guidelines and collects every receipt. Your money is going directly to medical help and there of course no administration or other charges.

So far Augustine has seen a local doctor and had some tests. A specialist came down from Tepic just to see him and discounted his fee when he heard about the community involvement. The doctor specializes in anti-immune disorders.

Augustine has now been given medication to reduce the sever inflammation on his skin. He will soon go in and get more tests, including biopsies, to help diagnose the problems. It is likely that he has a multiple of problems.

So far 600 pesos have been spent on doctors and medication. We expect the tests and lab work to be pricey.

We are going to do a home assessment soon to ensure that Augustine has clean linens and clothing. This may be an opportunity to clean your closets and ensure that these clothes reach a needy soul. Stay tuned.

Again thank you for your support. We want to additionally thank George, who with a very busy schedule, has made time in his life to drive Augustine to appointments, wait for hours in doctor’s offices etc. This is not an easy task.

Kohunlich Quitana Roo Mexico Mayan Masks

Photography by Bill Bell

Kohunlich comes the name "Cohune Ridge". Cohune is a species of fruiting palm common to the area.

The site is best known for its Temple of the Masks, an Early Classic pyramid whose central stairway is flanked by huge humanized stucco masks. Built around 500 A.D., this is one of the oldest constructions at the site. After 700 A.D., this temple was covered over with a Terminal Classic construction, this protected the masks and allowed for the masks to remain in excellent shape with some of the original colors.
