NOT!
Yesterday was the Dia de Santo Inocentes
The day of the innocents was celebrated in Mexico and Latin America yesterday. Originally celebrated to commemorate the day of the male children killed by King Herod, the day now has morphed into a similar custom as "April Fools Day." Expect practical jokes. Wikipedia says "The mass media make jokes or distort their content in such a way that the information seems real...It is tradition that the newspapers publish whole pages of the humorous news...that seem serious and deceive the reader off guard." We were pulling your leg, but the truth of the matter is that it appears the story was believable enough for many people because we all fear that rapid progress could come our way at any time. And with that rapid growth so goes many of the things that we cherish here in Jaltemba Bay. Let's hope we have a few more years before we ever see a McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken or even a Starbucks on the streets of La Peņita. So hopefully now that after yesterday's bogus story on the golf course and two massive hotels is officially debunked, the real estate prices in La Colonia and La Peņita will drop back to where they were.

The above picture are men strippers from Veracruz protesting in Mexico City against a new law (enacted earlier this year) by the ex governor of Veracruz that insists that they keep their shorts on...a little complicated explanation but in the interest of good taste The Express didn't publish the picture of them without shorts (not another California George controversy). The sign accuses the ex governor of corruption and repression.

GOT YA!
Editor,
Morning from cold miserable Alberta.
We are all packed up and ready to head south. But sunny Alberta turned in to wintery Alberta with a storm coming through yesterday and all night. So we are looking at another day here. Supposed to clear off by tomorrow.
I just about had a heart attack when I opened up your newsletter this morning. You definitely got me.
So if all goes well we will be on our way soon, looking forward to seeing everyone and basking in the sun. Happy New Year!

Ms Maneras
"Polite Living in Paradise"
Dear Ms. Maneras,
I would love to play golf but have heard that the Womens Day is very snobby. I am hesitant.
Wanna-be-golfer
Dear Wanna-be-golfer,
Ms Maneras thinks that one has to ignore the town gossips and find out for yourself. The women that play golf are delightful company and really willing to share their love for the game and the area with all newcomers. They are also a hoot.
Pick up your sticks and join in. You wont regret it.
Ms M
Dear Ms Maneras,
I nearly jumped out of my sock when I saw the development timetable for La Peņita yesterday. I went to my favorite restaurant and learned it was some kind of joke
.Some joke.
My realtor has doubled the prices on houses in La Peņita already and has bulk purchased new T-shirts for the area.
What kind of editorial staff would do this? It is totally irresponsible.
Janet K
Dear Janet,
Ms Maneras has been inundated with calls and letters after the prank yesterday and can only agree with your assessment. She has been complaining for years now about the totally irresponsible management at the Express.
There is no fighting them however. They get up when they want. They write what they please and they are just plain ignorant when it comes to staff relations. They threaten to close the Express when it ceases to be fun.
Ms Maneras suggests you tell your realtor to adjust those prices accordingly and save those T-shirts. Development is coming but is hopefully a decade away.
Ms M
Dear Ms Maneras,
I was at a restaurant the other day and had my picture taken by one of those pesky photographers from the Express. The problem is I was out with this very nice fellow that wasnt my boyfriend from home.
Well to make a long story short, my boyfriend saw my picture and wants an explanation.
What should I do?
Melinda from Kansas
Dear Melinda from Kansas,
Ms Maneras thinks you are in deep do-do and should consider taking one of the 2 following routes. 1. Tell the truth. 2. Lie your butt off.
Of course each has consequences.
To avoid a similar situation, Ms Maneras kindly suggests you duck when the photographer is present. It is much more discreet than posing suggestively.

Do You Feel it Too?
David Lord - PVNN

|
We came together this season to share our lives with friends and family, but I feel even at our happiest gatherings a small piece of us is distracted, do you feel it too?

The American community as a whole has an emptiness in part of its collective soul. The joys that we share when together are a little less carefree since we are facing the folly of Iraq.

Navigating our future through a sea of wasted money, deceptive agendas, squandered good intentions, we are in transition. Once seen as a world leader we are now seen by the world as a clown, one who was fooling around where we do not belong and getting burned.

We really are living in a politically correct governed society which demands politically correct solutions for even our enemies. They will not find a P.C. solution for the Iraq War. The New Year is coming and you and I are in for some stormy weather, so love your best and protect yourself from too much news, because the news will be hard to take.

Ed Bradley of CBS news passed away not long ago, and I just found out he died of Leukemia while I was listening to my satellite radio show. Ed had covered a lot of action in Viet Nam, I wondered what type of Leukemia, because Agent Orange is a cause of many cancers today and is a compensated disease by the V.A.

I sent an email to the program and the producer of the show contacted me back about this information. After introductions and conversation about cll cancer he will find the exact cause of Ed's death.

I will be interviewed tomorrow on the nation wide broadcast by XM Radio, on channel 169 "The Power" with Urban Journal's, Keith Murphy. I plan on getting the message out that U.S. Veterans are still dying for South Viet Nam's War over 40 years later, and that sometimes great men like Ed Bradley may actually be casualties of the Viet Nam War.

I received the email below, and I am asking any Veteran in Banderas Bay that wants to address any issue to contact me, so that I may address the question or situation on your behalf.

December 2006

Dear Accredited Veterans Service Officer:

The Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission was created by an Act of Congress to 'carry out a study of the benefits under the laws of the United States that are provided to compensate and assist veterans and their survivors for disabilities and deaths attributable to military service' (Title XV, PL 108-136, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004.)

Its members, who were appointed by the President and leaders of Congress, are reviewing information they deem necessary in developing their report to the President and the Congress.

The commission has determined that surveying those on the "front lines" of the benefits determination and disability rating process, who have first-hand experience working with it, is a necessary part of the study it is charged with carrying out.

The commission invites you, as an accredited veterans service officer, to participate in this survey. The information and insights you can provide regarding this process and your experiences assisting veterans and their survivors to prepare, present, and prosecute their disability and compensation claims would be of great use to the commission and will help improve the process for the benefit of America's disabled veterans. We received your email address through a request to your Veterans Service Organization for a list of its accredited service officers.

Each one of us can make a difference in the world in which we are living by becoming a member of the American Legion Post 14. I started this Post so that we Veterans can make a positive difference here in Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay. You can be a part of it by becoming a volunteer, it is rewarding beyond your wildest dreams.

The Post accepts memberships of all Veterans and encourages members to recruit associate members that have no military service to become associate members, they have all the same benefits, less the right to vote in Post elections.
David Lord served in Vietnam as combat Marine for 1st Battalion 26th Marines, during which time he was severely wounded. He received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation for his actions during the war in Vietnam. In Mexico, David now represents all veterans south of the U.S. border all the way to Panama, before the V.A. and the Board of Veterans Appeals. David Lord provides service to veterans at no fee. Veterans are welcome to drop in and discuss claims/benefits to which they are entitled by law at his office located at Bayside Properties, 160 Francisca Rodriguez, tel.: 223-4424, call him at home 299-5367, on his cell: 044 (322) 205-1323, or email him at mophmx@@yahoo.com or david.lord@yahoo.com.

Kohunlich Quitana Roo Mexico Mayan Masks
Photography by Bill Bell
Kohunlich comes the name "Cohune Ridge". Cohune is a species of fruiting palm
common to the area.
The site is best known for its Temple of the Masks, an Early Classic pyramid
whose central stairway is flanked by huge humanized stucco masks. Built around
500 A.D., this is one of the oldest constructions at the site. After 700 A.D.,
this temple was covered over with a Terminal Classic construction, this
protected the masks and allowed for the masks to remain in excellent shape with
some of the original colors.

These fifth century stucco masks above represent the rulers of Kohunlich
