Community Invitation

YOU ARE INVITED TO THE VERY
FIRST ANNUAL 'MEET THE ARTIST' EXHIBITION AND SALE
 DATE:  Sunday, December 10, 2006
 PLACE:  Casa de Los Amigos
 TIME:  Noon 'til Sunset

Refreshments Will be Served
BRING YOUR FRIENDS!

Casa de Los Amigos is located north of the old cemetery on Calle Mirador, No. 3, La Penita.  Go through the gate to the top of the hill.  Limited parking is available.

Judy Kerrigan, a self-taught artist from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, will exhibit her paintings at Casa de  Los Amigos in La Penita de Jaltemba, Mexico.

Judy hails from New Orleans  which was  her home before moving to San Miguel de Allende ten years ago.  Her interest in painting began when she took several lessons from a friend, Jeff Coffin, who is an artist in San Miguel.    Beyond that she has had no formal training but has been painting for the past ten years.

Her paintings have been displayed in galleries and in various shows in San Miguel including the well known Instituto de Allende, which is a campus of The Universidad de Guanajuato dedicated to the arts. Other paintings in the U.S. and Mexico are in private collections and art shops in Louisiana and Mississippi  where her paintings have been well received with a wide audience.

Among her most popular paintings is a series called "Mexico's White Churches" which are done in her own individual  'naive' art style for which  she is well known.   She will also show HER VERSION  of some of the Great Masters, such as Picasso, Mattisse, Modigliani and T. Loutrec, to name a few.  Her current work includes a "Beach" series which, she says is "her own favorite so far."

Restaurant ReviewRicardo will be offering some great fixins along with the traditiional turkey for Thanksgiving dinner

Richardo's Pizza

Now if you want a pizza that is an exact replica of the original New York Pizza of the 1940's get your butt to Ric's and ask for a large pizza made with a medium sized dough ball, " like Bernie likes it".  Of course it has to be a meat lovers to be authentic. Yes its slightly pricy but you get what you pay for and this pizza is the BEST, PERIOD. Take it from one who was born and raised there not far from where Ric is from. Hell I even went to school in Brooklyn, but I did shower afterwards.

Art Walk in BuceriasWork of Teresa Moreno at Casa del Artesano

ARTISANS OF BUCERIAS ART WALK

Bucerias is a small tranquil city on the north shore of Banderas Bay, about 6 miles from Puerto Vallarta. According to some promotional material Bucerias means “land of the divers.” One local artist, Christy Beguesse, who owns A Broken Art Mosaic Studio, has been working for over a year to fulfill her dream of having Bucerias come to mean “land of an art colony.”

Toward that end, one of her goals will be met on December 14th, when the first Bucerias Art Walk she has organized will take place. Beguesse has watched, dreamed and planned over the years as artists making use all sorts of media have taken up residence in the “sleepy little town,” as she describes it.D'addio y D'addio outdoor portion of their gallery

“Artists are drawn to Bucerias for the obvious reasons of excellent winter climate and abundant tropical inspiration,” she says. But, she adds, unlike the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta, the slow pace of Bucerias is more conducive for the many creative artists that now take up residence in town to display their talents.

“Ask anyone who has discovered the many galleries in Bucerias and they will tell you how friendly the artists are. They are known for inviting you into their private studios, often their homes, sitting with clients while enjoying a refreshment, getting to know client and artist on a one-to-one basis.”

In early November, Beguesse was delighted when she and artists Carol and Peter D’adddio, who own the D’Addio and D’Addio Gallery across the street from her, sponsored a “gallery opening” which drew over 150 visitors.“It was very encouraging tWork of Kay Meltonhat, with word-of-mouth advertising only, so many people showed up,” Beguesse said.

Now she is inviting everyone to “discover this art colony for yourself.” The Bucerias Art Walk will take place along four blocks of Av. L. Cardenas, full of art galleries, fine jewelry stores and gourmet restaurants, from 7 to 10 p.m., Jalisco time. One interesting twist to the art walk is the Bucerias Art Walk card which will be handed out at each of the 15 participating galleries. The card can be redeemed at several art walk area restaurants for a free beverage.

In addition, according to Beguesse, special pricing will be provided by the galleries to make holiday shopping easier. The art walk can be found on Av. L. Cardenas, which runs parallel with the bay, south of the Bucerias Plaza. A free shuttle service will be available to those who wish to be driven to each gallery.

You can contact Christy Beguesse at abrokenart@gmail.com.

A few of the Galleries involved are:
Artist Jessica Estrada of In Latino 6D'ADDIO Y D'ADDIO
Carol and Peter D'Addio provide an extensive collection of their contemporary and abstract art work in a contemporary setting. Having worked in L.A., New York and San Francisco the D'Addios settled in Bucerias 3 years ago and have been producing great art since then.
A BROKEN ART MOSAIC STUDIO
Spearheaded by Christy Beguesse this gallery exhibits fine pieces of mosaic artwork using both handmade tile and hand painted glass. Mosaic workshops are available in the garden setting. "Arm Candy" hand crafted beaded jewelry will also be displayed.
CASA del ARTESANO
Teresa Morena relocated to Bucerias from San Luis Potosi 9 years ago. She specializes in oils and produces realistic seascapes. Also to be seen in this gallery are the watercolors by Kay Melton who describes herself as an artist, mother, grandmother, optimist, believer, and dreamer.
GALLERIA del SOLWork of Calum Cameron at Galaria del Sol 5
Resident artist Calum Cameron has been described as a "Master of Light and Shadow". He is dedicated to providing a quiet, reflective viewing environment for both art lovers and collectors.
IN LATINO
Owner Jessica Hernandez Estrada produces exquisite hand made jewelry using silver and natural stones. Her gallery also includes a collection of fine handmade jewelry from Guatemala and Columbia.

MILLING'S CERAMIC GALLERYFinished ceramic art at The Milling's Ceramic Gallery
Ann and Bob Milling winter in Bucerias every year and open the doors of their working studio where the public is invited to create their own beautiful pieces of art.
SOL de PAPEL
Looking for a life size tiger or giraffe? Well you kind find it here along with other eclectic collections of artwork from Tonala.

Horseback Riding Tours of the Area
Want to explore the back hills by horseback? Then these are the tours for you. The tours are scheduled on Fridays beginning on November 24 or can be arranged privately for a group.
Everyone meets at (please note this change!) the Pemex in Lo de Marcos.  we then take a drive through the farming country to the Rancho Guadalupe for a wonderful breakfast of Mexican tacos. Make your own fresh tortillas if you want.  We then meet our horse friends for the day and begin the trip.
We have designed both easy and semi difficult trips depending on people's desires.  The easier trips are a combination of farmlands, riverbeds and roads, lots of scenery and plant and animal life. These trips are from 2 to 3 hours long. The more difficult trip consists of roads, farmlands, and trails which lead up and over a ridge and down to the river and waterfalls and pools.  Somewhat arduous in places but if a person is somewhat familiar with horses, it shouldn't be a problem.  It is lengthy however lasting about 2 and a half hours one way to the cascadas and 2 hours for return.
Upon return we are greeted by a traditional Mexican lunch.  Beer and frescas are available for purchase.
The cost of the trips are 300 pesos for the shorter trips and 400 pesos for the long trip. People should wear long pants and socks.  Bring sun block and bug dope,  any kind of snacks for the trail, water, camera and binocs.
Organize your own group at least 2 days in advance - Minimum of 4 people and a Maximum of 8. For questions and reservations contact garydorisstackhouse@hotmail.com
