PUPPIES

Editor

Can anyone who lives in the area help to feed and or provide foster care for
these puppies?
This is the email I received and my reply..

Hi Lin:
There are six puppies living with their mother in a hotel that is being
built at the end of our street.  She has been feeding from the garbage pile on the
corner of Sol Nuevo and Albatros.  This pile is getting cleaned up with less
tourists.

There are six and they are now wandering further a field looking for food.
They are about six weeks old.  Sorry we can't rescue them, John is badly allergic
to dogs (the only reason I don't have one).  I understand that you have been
working at this.  I did mention this to Danny and asked him to tell Nancy
but have not heard from anyone.
I have no idea what the criteria is to get them rescued.
Pauline

Thanks Pauline. Can you get some pictures and send with your comments to
editor@ontheroadin.com to include in the Jaltemba Bay Express?  Also Allyson
Williams at MexicanaAlly@att.net as Allyson writes the newsletter for the
Residencial Association. We need to get the information out and hopefully we
can find homes.
Can you please email pictures as well and I will distribute from my network. We need to get the mother spayed as well and give the puppies
vaccinations.  We have had no offers of foster homes until we can get the
puppies adopted so it is a problem.  We really need foster care!!!  I can
get the animals adopted or sent back to the US or Canada but need more help! I will try to get by or send someone who lives nearby.

MS MANERAS

Dear Ms Maneras,

We have been living in the area for two years now and love it. We get the Express Daily and life is pretty glorious.

The problem is our new neighbor. He’s a great neighbor and I really like his wife. The problem is that he sends me porn. We’re not talking about a dirty joke now and again…..This is really hard core stuff.

I don’t like it and feel really offended. He asks me if I got his email and I guess I just wimp out and say yes and smile. The truth is I wish he would stop.

Gerry in Guayabitos

Dear Gerry,

Ms Maneras firmly believes that what a person does in the privacy of their own computer is their own business. Sharing without consent is a different matter altogether.

When Ms Maneras gets emails she doesn’t want, be they chain letters, sappy notes about friendship or the like, she returns to sender with unsubscribe in the subject line. You really don’t have to explain yourself. Repeat this procedure if needed.

If the neighbor continues to send offensive emails, merely block him on your email program. If he asks if you got his latest email, simply say no. The truth.

It is not Ms Maneras intent to get into a fru-fra about whether pornography is morally right, wrong, abusive or the like. She personally does not like it and would prefer people have real relationships with real people but sadly this is not always possible.

Dear Ms Maneras,

I was wondering, My Mother was born in Canada, so does that make me half smug and half arrogant? Also, I have been searching the La Peñita RV Park for a "Smug" Canadian but all I find are the common garden variety ones, except for one who is aspiring to the international status of ass hole!

Perhaps Bill was referring to the Canadian he knows best?

Stan

Dear Stan,

Too-shay! Mr. Bell, our esteemed publisher, has certainly stirred things up with his comments about Canadians feeling smug and harassing Americans.

Many of my fellow Americans feel the same as you – they have never had to defend American policies, the wars, or President Bush. Others however, feel that some Canadians speak to them as if they personally voted in the President and were directly involved in building the border wall etc.

Many of my American friends would love, in retaliation, to chide their Canadian friends about their Prime Minister but sadly, don’t know his name.  What is it again….?

Ms Maneras is unclear, my dear Stan, to whom you refer in the last part of your letter. Bell claims he knows his wife best and takes offence at your remarks. Perhaps you should clarify.

Ms Maneras

Dear Ms Maneras,

I am really embarrassed. I went to Matejas the other day with my date and she started googling this guy who was wearing a black Speedo. What should I do?

Ralph

Dear Ralph,

Ms Maneras loves Speedos. They make her blush. To hell with imagination!

She suggests you go to Sorianas in Puerto Vallarta to get your very own. Liven up the beach with laughter.

Restaurant Review

Kitchen Goddess - Linda BinnsKitchen Goddess Linda Binns

                                                       La Mesa Loco

Greek food is one of my favorite types of cuisine and I was happy and surprised when I found that La Mesa Loco serves Greek style food.  La Mesa Loco is located inside the gates of the Hotel Penmar on Avenue Sol Nuevo, Rincon and is a pleasant open air restaurant.  The restaurant sits by the pool and it's fun to watch the children play while their parents hover around the edge of the pool.  There's lots of laughter to accompany your meal.  We found the restaurant to have an enjoyable atmosphere.

The menu is filled with Mediterranean style foods and you have your choice of beef, veal, chicken, fish, pastas and pizza.  This is the place to eat if you want souvlaki, moussaka or veal marsala.  We ordered a large pepperoni, onion and extra cheese pizza and the Greek onion soup (Stan couldn't resist.)

Our pizza arrived piping hot and crisp.  The dough was infused with herbs, the cheese was hot and stringy and tasted very fresh.  The pepperoni was the real thing.  The crust was thick and chewy and the sauce was just spicy enough to let you know it was there.  This was one good pizza and we managed to eat all but 2 slices. These we saved for breakfast the next day.  The onion soup was superb.  It was a creamy broth with diced onions, potatoes and a wonderful combination of Greek spices.  We've since gone back for lunch and ordered just the onion soup and Greek salad.  The Greek salad is prepared the way it should be, without a lot of lettuce.  The cucumbers are diced along with onions, tomatoes, and tossed with Greek olives, feta cheese, hardboiled egg, yummy spices and oil and vinegar dressing.  The lettuce is secondary to the other vegetables.

La Mesa Loco is open from 12:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. every day but Wednesday. The restaurant is a good space for a party. If you'd like to have a private party talk to Kathy about the details.  She's at the restaurant every day and will be more than happy to accommodate you.

Feast of San Antonio Abad

Día de San Antonio Abad

January 17th

This is a religious holiday celebrated in Mexico to honor the patron Saint Anthony. Animals are allowed in the churches throughout the country for this day for blessings. Often the worshipers bring livestock as well as pets.

In some communities after the church services, a feast is held for the congregation and visitors. Festivities often include competitions, sports activities and of course - fireworks.

About Saint Anthony

St. Anthony the Abbott, (San Antonio Abad) was born in Egypt in 251 to a wealthy family. His parents died when he was twenty and left him in the care of his older unmarried sister. He decided to follow the teachings of Jesus who said (Matthew 19:21) "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven; and come, follow Me." and in 285 gave his wealth to the poor, put his sister in an early nunnery and decided to live in complete solitude.

San Antonio lived as a hermit in solitude in the desert. Legend has it that the devil fought Anthony regularly with boredom, phantoms of women and laziness. He overcame these through prayer and then moved to a tomb where he locked the door on himself for complete solitude. The devil, envious of his intense worship, beat him unconscious. After he recovered he again moved to the desert; this time to a mountain by the Nile. He lived in an abandoned Roman fort for twenty years but did not escape the continued warring of the devil against him this time with visions of wild beasts, snakes, scorpions and lions. San Antonio said "If any of you have any authority over me, only one would have been sufficient to fight me." and the visions ceased. God gave victory over the devil to San Anthony.

The emerged healthy, serene, and enlightened. Through his battles with the devil, advice and the serene and enlightened demeanor, his reputation grew. He began to have a following and Emperor Constantine wrote and asked for his blessing.

San Antonio lived to be 105 and is the subject of many paintings.

He is the patron Saint for animals, amputees, basket makers and weavers, butchers, cemetery workers, domestic animals, eczema, epileptics, erogoyism, hermits, hogs, monks, skin disease and a host of other interesting occupations and illnesses.

He is represented with a crutch, and is often portrayed with a bell on the end of a cross. Pigs are often at his side.
