Support your local artists

(by Roberto Gil de Montes – Arts Beat Editor)

Ruth Suarez Cervantes's studio-shop is closing, after several months of operation at the end of the Avenida Emiliano Zapata. Ruth had to close her studio-shop after her rent was doubled.
Ruth has been creating unique fashion items which she featured at her studio-shop that she opened last summer when she arrived in La Peñita from San Miguel de Allende. She has worked with many clients with their fabric design needs; curtains, covers, dresses, blouses, purses, belts, not to mention one of a kind comfort pillows.
In a true artist spirit, Ruth announced to this paper that she plans to continue working out of her home. You can also stop and see her at the Thursday tianguis here in La Peñita. mailto:rth@hotmail.com.

Golf for a Cure

Registration Is Hopping

The Jaltemba Bay Express Golf Challenge Tournament, February 25 has sparked great interest in the community. Teams from towns along and surrounding the Bay Area will be playing off for the title and cup of Area Champions.

Gary Stackhouse, one of the lead organizers for the Tournament, encourages golfers to register as soon as possible to ensure they get to play. “We’re filling up the spots quickly” he warns.

The Tournament, which promises to be the first of an annual event, will raise money for cancer research. “All of us have been touched by this disease” says Stackhouse. “We can all play for a cure.”

The tournament costs $150 pesos plus green fees for non-members. This includes a big rib dinner and prizes. There will be games and activities for all. Participants must register with Gary golf_challenge@ontheroadin.com and include the following information:

Name of Team & Town

Team Captain (Phone & Email)

Names of 3 Team Members (Phone & Email) Registration must include the fees and can be dropped off at the golf course on Thursday, Sunday and Tuesday mornings at 10 am.

Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue

Meeting & Volunteers

General meeting of all interested volunteers for either the Los Ayala Free Spay and Neuter Clinic (Jan. 15 to 17th) or the Lo de Marcos Clinic (Jan 20th to 23rd) on Saturday, Jan. 13th at 10 a.m. at the clinic site located at Avenida del Estero South #215, Los Ayala.

There will be an organizational meeting to set up the clinic on Friday, Jan. 12th at 10 a.m. at the clinic site in Los Ayala.

If anyone has newspaper to line kennels, please bring it along!

We seem to have an explosion of puppies!  Rosalie Hope rescued 6 small puppies and has now found homes for 4 of them.  I am feeding two (either xolo or Chihuahua cross) in Los Ayala and there are 6 other homeless puppies approximately 6 weeks old wandering around the Residencial area.  If you can help feed these puppies until we find homes, that would be a huge help!  We are also in need of foster homes.

On a lighter note, we have sent three rescued dogs back by air to wonderful homes in the US and Canada and have a home for one more small puppy.  Thanks to all of you who have given us so much support!

YOU may now give directly to the Animal Rescue fund.  PLEASE GIVE BY CLICKING THE BUTTON BELOW  All donations will be listed the following day

Hello Ms Bell,

I read the Jaltemba Bay Express Daily and would like to thank you for producing such a great media update on such a regular basis. My family and I were just in Los Ayala for two weeks and we truly love the area and the people.

The reason I am writing a request for a posting is that while in Los Ayala, during his early AM jogging, my husband came across three puppies living in an abandoned shelter. We really wanted to help these little pups, so we asked our friends, Lin and Jim, to help us. We originally did not think it would be possible to bring a puppy home from Mexico but we have had our dear little 'Queso' living with us since our return last Wednesday--and she is one happy puppy. As we already had two dogs here in Vancouver, Canada, we were unable to take all three puppies home with us--we certainly did think about it.

In an effort to let people know, I have been posting on the Jaltemba Bay Folk. My friend, Lin Chimes, suggested I contact you as more people would see an article about the puppies in the Express. Lin has emailed me to let me know that one more of the puppies is getting adopted tomorrow (Wednesday) and there will be a lone puppy left. My fear is that left alone, with two siblings gone, the last puppy may not make it.

These are beautiful little dogs: extremely intelligent, well-mannered, and very loving. It would be an absolute shame for the last puppy to not find a good home and to be left alone without any companionship.

So I am sending this request out to you and to all of the wonderful people of Jaltemba Bay--we can make a difference in this little puppy's life--he just needs a good home and someone to love him!

Thank you,

Cinnamon

PS. The spay and neuter clinic is just around the corner...please help out Lin, Jim and all the other fantastic folks who make this important event a reality. Every little bit helps and does make a difference to the dogs and cats of Jaltemba Bay!
