BAY ART GALLERY Reaches Second Level
The Jaltemba Bay Art Gallery is currently undergoing massive renovations. Workers yesterday were mum on final plans but it was obvious to the reporter that the plans were being kicked up a notch. Cement and brick are now being hoisted to the second level of the gallery.
Gallery Owners, Eduardo Domínguez and Roberto Gil de Montes (The Jaltemba Express Arts Beat Editor), have been planning the gallery for some time and recently purchased the home just a skip and jump off the plaza to the West of Soley’s Restaurant. The house has been gutted and workers can be seen daily making changes to the building.
“We’re hitting the big times” says Hala of Maya Hammocks. “La Peñita’s getting a gallery.”
WOULD THE REAL LINDA GIBBS PLEASE STAND UP
The Jaltemba Bay area is blessed with not one but TWO Linda Gibbs that are great supporters of activities in the area. We have Linda Gibbs from San Pancho who is very active in her community and we also have Linda Gibbs from La Peñita who is equally active and owns the Casita de La Peñita with husband Bob.

Expansion of El Monteon´s Field of Dreams Underway.jpg)
El Monteon´s Fields of Dreams golf course is currently undergoing a major upgrade that will add a whole new dimension to golfing in Jaltemba Bay. Although the total changes to the links are still under wraps, Heraldo, the course owner, took the Express on a tour of the course and showed us the two new holes under construction .
Holes four and five will see a dramatic change adding both length and difficulty to the course.
Hole four will be approximately 230 yards with the green ending up on a island placed in a natural spring fed pond. This will be a par four, the first for the links and has the traits of a signature hole.
Hole five will then becomes the longest hole on the course, well over 250 yards with another pond that most players will have to hold up on before trying to get to the green. Heraldo says that it will be definitely be a par four but could end up being a par five.
The two new holes are planned to be completed within a month, but most likely won't be completed until late March or April according to Gary Stackhouse.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Hi Kids,
Because of my father's love of Mexico my family has been traveling down here since the 1950's. As I sit in Paradise, enjoying the Express, I realize that he would like to share the experience. Since he can no longer travel due to health reasons, I'm hoping a daily cyber-dose of J Express will be almost like being here. Thanks,
Mitchell Schilling
I know some of you are grumbling about the "poor weather" back home.
Just to let you know, though, that while news reports have been showing B.C. as a winter wonderland, winter has definitely arrived here on the Prairies too. In Winnipeg there is no doubt that it is safe to skate on the Assiniboine and Red rivers.
Today it is -36C and for those lucky enough to have a breeze passing through their neighbourhood the wind chill makes it feel like -43C. Cheers,
Don Fiorvento
CANCER HELP ORGANIZATION NEEDED
There is a woman in San Pancho who has breast cancer. She has had the most radical mastectomy I have ever seen. She needs a test in Guadalajara soon and even at a reduced cost for her it will cost her $6800 pesos. Her brother works or owns a shrimp boat and has provided her fresh shrimp to sell to earn money for her treatments. She travels to Tepic on a bus for her chemo treatments and must travel alone because they can't afford the bus fare for a family member to travel with her. Is anyone aware of a cancer help organization in Mexico? I called the Susan B. Komen Foundation in Texas and they said they are not in Mexico. Any information would be so helpful.

Editorial
We received a letter yesterday from a friend that lives in La Peñita approximately 4 months of the year. He comes here every year from the US and is a great supporter of many causes in the community. However that letter was not about a good cause or new idea; it was a serious and detailed complaint about a local restaurant. He was to say the least – very ticked off and ended his letter with “Furthermore, as a minimum, we suggest that the Jaltemba Express delete this restaurant from their publication.”
The Editorial Board spent a great deal of time thinking about a response. We are after all a new publication and feel it necessary to have some policy regarding negative reviews and negative service. We want to develop a legitimate relationship with our readers by printing the truth yet we want to be fair.
Do we, as a volunteer organization and publication, want to ban restaurants or for that matter any other businesses? Do we want to only publish “Good News?” We have given a great amount of thought to these and other questions. Essentially where do we draw the lines for editorial censorship or inclusion?
We invite your response to the dilemma.
We have visited the restaurant many times and always enjoy the food and service. Sometimes things get hectic but that is true with all restaurants. As full time residents, we often hear that it is difficult to get good help that stays for the whole season. It is very difficult to get staff that arrive on time, let you know when they are taking a day off or out and out quitting. We also think that cooks and restaurant owners can have bad hair days.
Our decision on this particular occasion was to not publish the letter. We do not think the poor service, for example, on this occasion was intentional nor is it the norm. But to tell you the truth, we would rather not have had to make a decision at all.
Bill and I started the Jaltemba Express to have fun and help bring the community together through providing information. We await your response to our decision.
Entertainment Review
Singer Roberto Curiel
Singer Roberto Curiel belted out Mexican favorites at Hinde and Jaimes last evening to a small crowd of mostly Mexican patrons. Too Bad. Roberto Curiel provided solid entertainment value for the evening and amazed and delighted the audience with his tunes.
Jaltemba Express Editor Dorothy Bell was on location for the début performance and was thrilled that “a musician of this calibre is playing in La Peñita in such a small venue. We have traveled throughout Mexico and can honestly say that a performer of Roberto Curiel’s stature is usually playing in Guadalajara or Mexico City in a much larger venue.”
Curiel promised to give notice to the Express when he will play again in our community. (He will be on hand at the Superbowl Party Sunday February 4th) He is a NOT TO BE MISSED entertainer that you will always remember. Bill and Dot Bell Photography

Humor
Maria, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several members did not approve of her extra-curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.
She made a mistake, however, when she accused Pancho, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told Pancho (and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing.
Pancho, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny... he said nothing.
Later that evening, Pancho quietly parked his pickup in front of Maria's house, walked home, and left it there all night.
