Spay & Neuter Clinic Continues Today in Lo De Marcos

Our final total so far for donations is $4,973.87!!  This includes all donations to date including some anonymous donations as well as money from the donation jar at Los Ayala!  WOW!  Thank you to John and Vell Cole and Karen and Jack both from Los Ayala for their donations.  We have now adopted out all but two of our 16 puppies plus two other adoptions for a total of 18 adoptions...all to GOOD homes!
Many thanks to Ja'Qui for all her help, Nancy Milski and everyone else who has adopted these puppies.  Also thanks to those of you who have helped fostering our animals until they recuperate and those of you who are fostering puppies and kittens until we find a home. We had one male who ripped out his stitches 4 times!  He is now fostered by Ed and Marylyn wearing a make-shift collar made out of a plastic flower pot..Can you
imagine!  One sometimes has to improvise!  Bless them!
The Lo de Marcos was going strong today with excellent organization, steady
clientele and tons of support!  Well done, Anne, Melanie and volunteers!  A
special thanks to Karen who offered her house to have the clinic there!

PRESIDENT GUAYABITOS RESIDENT'S ASSOCIATION

Everybody knows Dan.

Danny Milski is once again the Proud President of the Resident's Association. A great guy and very knowledgeable resident, Dan was recently quoted as saying that "you have to keep busy to avoid bad habits." Well he's definitely keeping busy.

Our favorite Milski quote is "Retirement is not for sissy's." We remember that as we try to retire here in Paradise.

(We have quit counting the terms Danny has served as President of the Association....Jeeze crown the guy!)

FREE CLASSIFIED ADS

So you have a home for sale, or rent. You’ve got an air conditioner, fridge or boat. Want to rent a place or buy something?

Here is how you get the Jaltemba Express Free Listing

1)      Type your ad in your computer. We prefer NO FORMATTING. Yup that’s right. We’ll make it bold or red as per your instructions, but often it is harder to change it all to work on the web.

2)      Clearly state what you have to sell and give 5 -10 points about the article.  If it is a truck, for example, state the make, model, year, color, mileage and price. We find point form the most effective.

3)      Give us any additional instructions you may have. Blue background. Red Letters

4)      Give us a few pictures. We will select the best ones.

5)      After we print it, ensure it’s what you want. This is very important. You are the proof-reader, not us.

6)      We want ALL ads from to be translated into both English and Spanish.

7)      Then take this word file and picture files (JPEG) and send it to us (editor@ontheroadin.com) as an attachment or drop it off at the La Peñita RV Park on a disc.

If you cannot or do not have the skills to do the above, then talk to us. We have people in the community that you can pay to type or to translate etc. very inexpensively. If we have to do any of the above for you, then we will expect you give a big donation to a local charity.

Let us know when you classified is no longer available and when to pull your ad.

Tournament Format Set for Jaltemba Express Community Challenge Cup

MAGICAL MYSTERY WATERFALL

Hi, we saw the announcement about this visit on the day that we subscribed to the Jaltemba Newsletter.  Of course, we missed it.  After seeing the photos, we certainly would like to go. How can we find out where this lovely place is located?

Manon and Michel Simard,

TRANSLATIONS
I sent the file for Casa Tere (en espanol) yesterday, as you suggested, but I got error messages.  Not sure if you really got it.  Here it is again, if it is a duplicate, just delete.  Thanks for your help.
I would be willing to translate small, relatively simple things between English and Spanish for people who need that.  Larger, more complex docs, I would have to charge for, unless they are specifically for dealing with a charity or some emergency.  Much easier if docs can be sent electronically.  Best wishes,
Fred Chace

PARTY BOATS

Please keep us informed on what happened to the party boat.   Do they have any idea what caused it to take on water? Do you have a reporter covering the story?  Do the party boats have to be certified and inspected by some Mexican authority?

LUNCH

Hi Dot Y Bill...Read your paper every morning. What a great job you both are doing, we really enjoy it. We need to get together sometime soon and have lunch or something! Would love to see you soon,

BYE FOR NOW

I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to you, Bill, or Dylan.  Maybe next year we will have time for that afternoon chat and glass of vino tinto.  I can't believe how busy we have all been this year!  I will send an e-mail when we get home for the Express - reminding everyone why we should stay in Jaltemba Bay until April!

HUMOR

Submitted by Ray Lash

An old man lived alone in New Mexico. He wanted to spade his chili garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, Francisco, who used to help him, was in the US. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Oye Francisco, I feeleeng pretty bat cuz I do not tink I will be abel to plant mai Chili gardenz dis jear. I just getteeng too viejo to dig ay garden, bat if ju waz here, all mai problemas wood be ober. I know ju wood dig de lot for me.

Siempre, tu poppy

A few days later he received a letter from his son:

 Dear Poppy,
Por favor, no, don't dig up the garden, that's where I buried the BODIES!
 Love, Francisco

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.

That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

 Dear Poppy,
Go ahead and plant the chilis now. Its the best I could do.
 Love, Francisco

Restaurant Reviews

 Charly´s in Los Ayala
D. Bell

Sometimes you just can’t say no to a friend.

Lin Chimes wanted me to come out and visit her in Los Ayala and we dropped into one of her favorite restaurants “Charlys” She had written a couple of times with tempting notes:
“Los Ayala has a great restaurant called Charlie's Bar and Grill on the main beach street our town. If you visit, try their stuffed fish...fabulous! Live music available at your table upon request or when the waiter is not serving! My house guests are regulars for breakfast, lunch or dinner!”
But this editor didn’t bite… I am very busy I said. So Lin writes again:
“Just had another meal at Charlys'...you really need to try this one out. The best food. Jim had the seafood soup (lobster tail), the Sarandeado is unbelievable and the drinks are delicious. Charly's one, Antonia who serves will also pick up a guitar and sing at your table. Prices are so reasonable.”
Still I had other priorities. “So many restaurants, so little time,” I told her. But Lin persisted and insisted we go their together …. If only to talk about the clinic.
I was surprised to see Charlys on the main drag, a block off the beach in a brightly colored cinderblock building. Unassuming. It has inside and outside seating with a backyard area for larger crowds.
Lin, Jim and I sat outside at a little table and inquired about the “Sarandeado” a very special dish. Tony the owner returned 10 minutes later with a report “No,” he was sorry to report, “they do not have fresh caught fish. It must be the best for this dish.” While disappointed that I couldn’t try it, I was impressed that he would not compromise his standards.
We ordered the Seafood Soup, Mexican Style Fish Fillet, and Stuffed Fish Fillet and shared on smaller side plates so we could sample a broader range of items.
I was not disappointed. Indeed the seafood soup did have half of a small lobster as well as many other seafood treasures. Both the fish entrées were well prepared; clean tasting and very fresh. Unlike many restaurants, Charly’s does not overuse oil or grease to prepare their fish. The result is a lighter and tastier product. You taste the fish and not the oil or garnish.
While we chatted and ate, Tony Jr. played guitar unobtrusively a few tables away. Just right. The family owned and operated business has a welcoming staff and simple humble ambience that allows diners to eat and enjoy the food, music and conversation Serving good seafood at great prices, we know we’ll be back to try more items from this Los Ayala gem.
(Editors Note: See Jaltemba News Above. Charly’s has a singing contest tonight. Might be fun to give it a try!!!!

La Bottega dei Sapori in downtown San Francisco – by from Ken Larone

One hundred years ago, thousands of Italians immigrated to the Pacific port of San Francisco, U.S.A. With them came their recipes for fine food, wine and olive oil. Today the U.S. San Francisco is laddened with Italian culture and tradition.

Three two young Italian lovers discovered Mexico’s San Francisco, also on the Pacific Ocean’s west coast. They brought some of the same skills their ancestors brought to the U.S. Chiara Antonini brought her father’ pasta recipe from Vigano, 30 miles north of the Italian city of Milan. Her boy friend Alessio Casiraghi brought his cooking skills from a variety of restaurant kitchens around Milan.

Today this young couple is sharing their food skills with their loyal customers at La Bottega dei Sapori in downtown San Francisco. Each day they make fresh bread, pasta and desserts. Customer’s take-out favorites are focaccia, lasagna, pizza, fruit tarts, apple strudel, cheese cake and profitel rolls (cream puffs with chocolate).

“Our desserts are easy to eat,” says Antonini. “I can walk down the street and they are easy to sell, particular to Mexicans because they are use to buying food from street vendors.”

Most of Bodega’s customers who come to their small restaurant are Canadians and Americans who live six months of the year in the small coastal towns close to San Francisco. Special foods like tortellini or Osso Buco take longer preparation which means three or four days in advance notice.

Traditional Mexican food is based on fresh vegetables and fresh fruit with fish and chicken. The key staple to Mexican food is corn. Wheat flour is the staple in most of Italy except around Milan where polenta, a corn based pasta is preferred.

“Our business is growing in the high season----certainly around Christmas,” says Antonioni.

Charlie Cerrito of Sarasota, Florida, who has traveled throughout Italy many times, finds La Bodega great Italian food.”

Speaking the Truth
David Lord - PVNN

Gen. George Casey, the U.S. commander in Iraq, answers a question during a press conference in Baghdad. There are no guarantees of overall success or quick results in the new U.S.-Iraqi security drive in Baghdad, Gen. Casey said on Monday. (AP/Khalid Mohammed)
I add to the general dismay felt by American Citizens at the United States of America's Governmental Iraq policy. I have always wondered at the stated prize (a democratic government and free Iraqi people) from the Bush Presidential group.

After all the blood and suffering of our troops, how can a man that represents the so called "free people of America" ignore their voted mandate to stop the war and funding of it by sending more troops?

As we spend $250,000 dollars per minute - yes, I said per minute! - it is our own destruction of our free Nation by intentional bankruptcy. As we dig and deepen this slimy money eating pit, we as a Nation (at the direction of President Bush) have no way of climbing out. The new day's light is lost from these great depths we continue to dig.

I am just learning of evidence that the new U.S. Government sponsored trade policy giving the U.S. Oil Industry contract rights to develop and repair the oil fields in Iraq. These contract gifts could be the real reason we are there.

When the President states that, "we must increase the participation of the private sector bringing Iraq to the independence promised," it may in fact be nothing more than the rich getting richer off the oil.

You and I will always know when we lost America to greed. The young bragging Texas oil man had his Daddy's attempted assassin finally hanged, and now all he has left to do is get his oil buddies a piece of the oil action before leaving office.

I am a proven Military Patriot of another misguided war, I have bled for my Nation. I will write the truth as I see it even in a time of war. So, never label me left or right. I am neither, I am a Patriot willing to risk speaking the truth for you.

DISABLED VETERANS TAX TERMINATION ACT

H.R. 303 would eliminate the 10-year phase-in period for retirees with a disability rating of 50%-90% and extend concurrent retirement and disability payments' (CRDP) eligibility to retirees rated less than 50%.

H.R. 89 would extend eligibility for combat-related special compensation (CRSC) to chapter 61 (disability) retirees with fewer than 20 years of service.

Meanwhile, Rep. Jim Marshall has introduced H.R. 333, a proposal called the "Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act," which is the most comprehensive concurrent receipt legislation ever introduced. Marshall's all-encompassing bill includes the elements of H.R. 303 and H.R. 89, and would also open CRDP to chapter 61 retirees.

There have been thousands of men and women wounded and forced out of the military before they ever had a chance to give twenty years of service. This bill would allow those of us that are retired from military service with less than twenty years to collect our small military retirement checks instead of forfeiting them because we receive a check from the V.A.

You, as a civilian, have never been denied compensation for a work-related injury, but those that serve you in the military are, and your support for this bill is mandatory if you have any respect for the Veterans that serve you. Remember freedom is never FREE.

Congressman Lane Evans (D-IL), the Ranking Democratic Member on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and long-time advocate for veterans disabled by Agent Orange and other toxic exposures, announced that the Department of Defense (Defense) has developed guidelines for a special pay program.

"All military retirees who believe they qualify for the benefit should submit an application to their military department," said Evans. If living in the Puerto Vallarta area, you can submit your application to david.lord@yahoo.com

In order to qualify for the special pay program, military retirees must have at least 20 years of military service and have a combat-related disability that is either at least 60% disabling or a combat-related disability for which a Purple Heart was awarded and rated at least 10% disabling. The disability rating is determined by either the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or a Military Department.

According to the special pay guidlines found on the Department of Defense's website http://www.dod.mil/prhome/crsc.html, "disabilities rated by the VA on the basis of exposure to radiation, mustard gas or lewisite, Agent Orange, and those disabilities associated with Persian Gulf service that are presumed by the VA to be service-connected shall be presumed by the Military Department to be combat-related."
