Qigong Class to be held in San Pancho - By Linda M Gibbs (San Pancho)

Qigong Class to be held in San Pancho, sponsored by Harmonia Holistica, Tamara Bode, owner.  Marisol Mayell, Instructor. Marisol will teach Jade Woman on February 17 and 18 in the afternoon in a private oceanfront home.

Qigong is an ancient Chinese technique that may be 5000 years old. Qigong is composed of two words: "Qi"(pronounced "chee”) means energy or life energy and "gong" means work or skill; qigong then can be defined as the skill of working with your life force.

There are numerous qigong exercises, from sitting meditations to very active movements resembling Tai Qi. When performed correctly you will be able to guide the qi in your own body, healing and balancing your energy. With its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Qigong is a complete system of self help for prevention and healing of disease. With steady practice, Qigong increases internal power, an important component for the martial arts. Qigong can also be a vehicle for deepening spirituality, although it is not a requirement to follow any particular religion or philosophy. Qigong increases quality of life by creating mental clarity and emotional balance. For beginning practitioners it does not take long to notice the positive effects induced by qigong practice, as one feels increasingly energetic, balanced and peaceful.

In today's world we need Qigong even more than ever; with increasing advances in technology and communication we find ourselves under increasing stress, required to accomplish more and more, in less and less time. This unnatural pace plays havoc with our bodies, minds and emotions, as we disconnect from the natural world and put our health at risk. It is well known and scientifically accepted that the roots for many modern diseases is stress; Qigong then is a powerful technique that makes us more resilient to stress, reconnecting us with the  world of Nature and restoring full, vibrant health.

There are many types of qigong exercises, including special Qigong forms passed down from generation to generation by schools and families, sometimes in great secrecy. These forms include meditations, breathing techniques and self massage, often grounded in spirituality connected with Taoist and Buddhists philosophies. On February 17 –18   Harmonia Holistica in Sayulita, Marisol Mayell will teach Jade Woman Qigong, a form taught by her teacher, Master Liu, that has been practiced in her family for several generations.

This beautiful and flowing form with its movements aims to purify important channels and accupoints, the sounds or mantras are to find emotional balance and the powerful visualizations are to achieve a peaceful and very calm state within oneself and the world around.  Jade Woman Qigong offers a powerful, self-healing and method of disease prevention for women in all stages of life and although designed for women, this form is also recommended for men because of the strong benefits for the liver and blood circulation.

Marisol Mayell Is currently in the Lin Gui International Healing Qigong School Master Program and has been practicing and teaching for 14 years. She has also studied with Master B. K. Frantzis of Energy Arts Inc. and is teacher of The Alexander Technique since 1992. During her stay in Mexico Marisol will be offering private healing Qigong instructions by request, please write to marisolmayell@mindspring.com  for appointments and information.

The Lo de Marcos clinic has now successfully spayed or neutered over 60 animals and has raised a total of $349.07 USD through their donation jar.  Between the two clinics we have helped almost 120 animals!  AND adopted out approximately 20 animals to good homes.   WOW~!!

The total raised so far is $5,322.94 USD!!!!  Amazing!  We have yet to deduct our expenses around the two clinics but will update everyone when we know the final figures, especially around medical expenses. There is one more day for spaying and neutering at Lo de Marcos.  If anyone knows of an animal for spaying/neutering, please get this animal in EARLY as it is our last day in this area!   Thanks again for your support~ Lin

RVs & the Wheelchair/Walker Program

by Dorothy Bell

The Jaltemba Bay area has some of the most generous folks in Mexico. It’s hard for the Express to keep up with all the fundraisers and events organized to make this an even better place to live. People give what they can and sometimes that means money, labor or organizing an event.

RVers have been a silent yet significant part of this generosity.

Bill and I created ontheroadin.com - the largest web on the net for RVers and those that drive the highways in Mexico. While we receive over 20 letters and inquiries a day requesting information about tolls, routes and the like, we also receive letters that ask us “what should we bring to Mexico to help.”

Unlike fly-in tourists, RVers have space. Space for the unusual. From surgical equipment to school supplies, you can bet that a huge majority of those damn RV’s you are passing down the highways are bringing something unusual for somebody somewhere.

One of the very best examples of ingenuity and using the space advantage is the wheelchair program. Merv Peterson and others have been bringing and arranging for people to bring wheelchairs, walkers and crutches for many years. Likely the wheelchair or walker you see in the Bay Area has been brought down through this program. This year he placed chairs that came down with Ray and Eva Lash and Powell’s'. Some lucky recipients will be able to enjoy life just that more.

RVers we thank you. In particular we thank Merv for devoting so much energy to this project. (If you are going down the I-5, around Centralia, Washington, he will even deliver them to your rig.) Salud

FEATURE – Mexican Shower in Lo de Marcos

PRE-WEDDING PARTIES FOR THE BRIDE AND GROOMAna opens gift her Mom on right

By Jayne Freeman

Ana Madero was greatly surprised last Saturday, January 20, when the women of El Refugio RV Park in Lo De Marcos gave her a wedding shower.  Ana is a receptionist at Hotel Tlaquepaque, where the RV Park is located, and her future husband, Stephane Legault, is the Tlaquepaque Hotel’s RV park activities coordinator.  The wedding is planned for February 10 at the church in Rincon de Guayabitos.

About 40 women from the park and Ana’s mother and sister gathered in the park’s outdoor community center on Saturday with three tables of “potluck” appetizers, and waited in great excitement at noon for Ana to arrive.  When she did, tears of joy ran down her face.  “Una sorpresa?” I asked her, and she responded “Un GRAN sorpresa,” (a great surprise).”

The shower gift, in keeping with Mexican custom, was money collected from each person who attended, and given to Ana to pay for her wedding dress.  After she opened the gift, and smilingly thanked the group for a substantial contribution, everyone ate and visited.  Ana’s mother had prepared a special, delicious punch which was enjoyed by all.

Meanwhile, the men in the park surprised Stephane by taking him out to lunch at the Pina Colada in Guayabitos.  There they enjoyed food, drink and companionship, toasting the groom-to-be.  The men also took up a collection towards Stephane’s wedding expenses.

HUMOR

Submitted by Linda Binns

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.  Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall.

You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter, the wait has been so long you are about to wet your pants!  The dispenser for the modern "seat covers" (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty. You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there was one, but isn't - so you carefully, but quickly drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume "The Stance."  In this position your aging, toneless thigh muscles begin to shake.

You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance."  To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more.

You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday - the one that's still in your purse. (Oh yeah, the purse around your neck, that now, you have to hold up trying not to strangle yourself at the same time). That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible.  It's still smaller than your thumbnail.

Someone pushes your door open because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet. "Occupied!" you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT.  It is wet of course. You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late.

Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try. You know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get."

By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose against the inside of the bowl that sprays a fine mist of water that covers your butt and runs down your legs and into your shoes. The flush somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the empty toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too.

At this point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.  You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting. You are no longer able to smile politely to them.

Restaurant Reviews

 Charly´s in Los Ayala
D. Bell

Sometimes you just can’t say no to a friend.

Lin Chimes wanted me to come out and visit her in Los Ayala and we dropped into one of her favorite restaurants “Charlys” She had written a couple of times with tempting notes:
“Los Ayala has a great restaurant called Charlie's Bar and Grill on the main beach street our town. If you visit, try their stuffed fish...fabulous! Live music available at your table upon request or when the waiter is not serving! My house guests are regulars for breakfast, lunch or dinner!”
But this editor didn’t bite… I am very busy I said. So Lin writes again:
“Just had another meal at Charlys'...you really need to try this one out. The best food. Jim had the seafood soup (lobster tail), the Sarandeado is unbelievable and the drinks are delicious. Charly's one, Antonia who serves will also pick up a guitar and sing at your table. Prices are so reasonable.”
Still I had other priorities. “So many restaurants, so little time,” I told her. But Lin persisted and insisted we go their together …. If only to talk about the clinic.
I was surprised to see Charlys on the main drag, a block off the beach in a brightly colored cinderblock building. Unassuming. It has inside and outside seating with a backyard area for larger crowds.
Lin, Jim and I sat outside at a little table and inquired about the “Sarandeado” a very special dish. Tony the owner returned 10 minutes later with a report “No,” he was sorry to report, “they do not have fresh caught fish. It must be the best for this dish.” While disappointed that I couldn’t try it, I was impressed that he would not compromise his standards.
We ordered the Seafood Soup, Mexican Style Fish Fillet, and Stuffed Fish Fillet and shared on smaller side plates so we could sample a broader range of items.
I was not disappointed. Indeed the seafood soup did have half of a small lobster as well as many other seafood treasures. Both the fish entrées were well prepared; clean tasting and very fresh. Unlike many restaurants, Charly’s does not overuse oil or grease to prepare their fish. The result is a lighter and tastier product. You taste the fish and not the oil or garnish.
While we chatted and ate, Tony Jr. played guitar unobtrusively a few tables away. Just right. The family owned and operated business has a welcoming staff and simple humble ambience that allows diners to eat and enjoy the food, music and conversation Serving good seafood at great prices, we know we’ll be back to try more items from this Los Ayala gem.
