There is a spanking new dental clinic in town that has been receiving rave reviews from people throughout the Bay Area. “It’s wonderful” said my friend Carole. “They even have a 2 for 1 special for cleaning. Only 250 pesos.”
I decided to try it out.
The ORALCARE Clinic is located on Alfredo V Bonvill, (Parallel to the Avenida I block south) about 2 blocks up from the square. I had made an appointment on the phone for Bill and myself 2 days in advance. “250 pesos for two sounds too good to be true” I said to myself. There’s gotta be a catch….
We arrived early to the office and were greeted by Sugey (pronounced SUE-hay) an English speaking receptionist. We asked a few questions and were seated in the sparkling white reception area. Even though it was muddy on the streets, the white tiled floors gleamed.
The dentist, Dr Pablo Rivera was trained in Guadalajara and is now has relocated and lives in La Peñita. He works the clinic Monday to Friday from 9am to 2 pm, 4pm to 8pm.
He also works a Half day on Saturday or as needed.
Specialists come from Guadalajara weekly to provide specific care; special root canals, implants, peridontics etc.
I was welcomed by Dr Rivera and motioned to sit down in the brand new dentist chair. The equipment was impressive; clean and very new. A state-of-the-art flat screen monitor to the side is used to show the patient a close-up of their teeth before the procedures. The doctor carefully unwraps sterilized tools, gloves and probes before the cleaning, shows me the plaque and in Spanglish we discuss what needs to be done.
The cleaning was quick and easy. None of the manual and painful scraping. The water jet cleaning was quick, painless and other than the sound of the suction and water was devoid of sound….
I asked about an implant and the doctor quickly ushered in the receptionist. I broke a tooth over the holidays and need either a bridge or an implant. Together the three of us discussed my options and lay out a treatment plan. I was impressed.
When finished I returned to the reception desk to make further appointments and to pay my bill. To my surprise, for 2 cleanings, examinations and consultation the bill remained only 250 pesos. They accept VISA and they do not tack on a
handling charge to use your plastic – a common practice in Mexico.
The experience was great: An extremely clean and sterile environment. This was a painless easy cleaning with NO LECTURES or UPSALES. Do I recommend them?
Absolutely. I figure I should invite my friends from Canada and the US down and their airfare would be offset by the incredibly low prices.

New Storage Facility for
Jaltemba Bay
George & Loretta are taking reservations for space for 2007 in the new Storage facilities in El Monteon. The fenced area 1 block south of the school is currently undergoing massive changes. A large work crew is moving quickly to provide safe and secure storage for those who want to leave vehicles, boats, RVs and trailers in Paradise when they
go back home.
The area, protected from the salt air and high winds, is perfect for storing vehicles and electronic equipment. The large reinforced roof is ready now for vehicles and those that want protection from the summer sun and heavy rains. It is extremely sturdy and high enough to provide good air circulation during the muggy months ahead.
We visited the area last week when the backhoes were clearing the land for the Storage Rooms (bodegas) and the 24 - 7 security house. Bricks were piled high near the entrance ready for construction. George guarantees that they will be ready to go March 1 - a promise that looks like a slam dunk considering their reputation in the community and with the number of workers and equipment on the field. "We'll be ready" he says confidently.
The security for the facility will be second to none.
"We will have 3 layers of security" says George. "Number one, we are installing electric fences." (Currently the property is surrounded by a chain link fence) "Number two - we're having 24 hour security at the gate. Number three, we are having a BIG MEAN DOG on this side of the facility. And we're having his brother on the other side."
The storage rooms - bodegas- are going to be large enough for most storage needs. In fact you can get together with a neighbor or two and share the spacious 5'X10'x10' space. Each of these room
s will be accessible by a locked door. "You will be able to lock them yourself" explains Loretta "and ensure that you stuff stays put."
We were particularly impressed by the flexibility of the owners. "If someone has a special storage need, they should come down and talk to us" say George. "One fella, for example, wants his RV hooked up to electric so his fans can keep the air moving. Well we can take care of that and just charge him a little bit extra to cover our costs. If you need something special, let's see if we can provide it for you. Now's the time."
George and Loretta are committed to providing fair and honest pricing. They guarantee no price increases for at least 5 years. "We here for the long term. We live in this community year round and we want everyone to be happy with our services."
Customers who book for the 2007 Season will receive a 10% DISCOUNT.
A GREAT DEAL CONSIDERING THE ALREADY LOW PRICES.

ROSA
COMPLAINT FROM KATHY at MESA LOCA
SO TELL ME
We have Juan Manuel, who plays here Thursday, Saturday Sunday and Monday at La Mesa Loca, he is from San Blas.
He plays at the Bavarian Gardens on Friday after the Rednecks, Does he not merit a mention on your calendar. He has had a great audience at both Our Restaurant, which doesn't have a full menu or map and at Petra's, nor does Tequila Willys have a map.
If we are going to have restaurants and review listed, perhaps we should do this with an open mind and not a pick and choose method of listing. Thanks
Kathy
Editor’s Response:
Kathy, Please note this is a volunteer community paper that we have created and we work very hard at it. We determine our priorities based on all of the community desires – not just yours. Right now we are working at promoting a lot of charity events. I have forwarded your complaint to our volunteer Restaurant Reviewer -the Kitchen Goddess - and she has responded below.
Your restaurant is already listed but you complain that we don’t have a map to your place or list the entertainment or print a review
We haven't listed all restaurants, entertainers etc nor have we drawn maps to all restaurants. Ditto with other services - taxi's - doctors - dentists etc.
In fact we haven't finished maps to many places.....This will come but it does take time.
We are not here to make a living but rather the Jaltemba Express was created to assist the community in getting all kinds of information out to the Jaltemba readership and most of all we wanted to have fun doing it. Jeeze the Ads and listings are free. One would think you would be grateful….
We already devote more that 6 hours of volunteer time a day to our newspaper AND as volunteers, we get a bit ticked off when we get letters from you complaining that we should do more for your restaurant. Our priorities lie elsewhere at the moment but we have no intention of discriminating against any Jaltemba Bay venture or newsworthy event.
We suggest you write to Ms Maneras if you have further complaints.
Response to MESA LOCA from the Restaurant Critic
Hi Kathy, the restaurant reviews are done as time permits and right now I have a back log of restaurant reviews.
I reviewed La Mesa Loca and it will be submitted in turn for publication. I don't know what you mean by your observations about an "open mind and the picking and choosing method of listing" Your turns coming, I have several more in line before La Mesa Loca.
I don't have plans on changing how I pick and choose restaurants, because I feel that random reviews are the best and it will remain random. I hope that this clarifies how restaurants are reviewed and how they are submitted for publication. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at
stanandlinda@peoplepc.com
or ask me the next time we have dinner at La Mesa Loca.

Huichol Village Tours?
Are there any plans by a group to visit a Huichol village? I would be very interested in participating in a visit to a village.

DAMN PAPERBOYS
Hola, I was given your web site by Rosalie Hope and I emailed you a few days ago to be added to your subscribers who receive your editions via email. Since I have not yet started receiving it via email, Rosalie suggested that I make a second request. I would love to become a regular reader of your newspaper since I have visited La Penita and the RV park twice and have heard all about your excellent newspaper from Rosalie. I also have looked at it online. Thank you.
Roger Cormier.
(Editors Note) Damn Paperboys
Thank you, Dorothy. In my youth I was a paper boy. In those days we only had to contend with bad weather, unfriendly dogs, etc., not the complex demands of cyber space. Also, as a writer (including a weekly column that will feature Rosalie Hope in tomorrow’s editions), I want to congratulate you for persevering through such complexities to offer such a fine value to your subscribers in the local community and beyond.
