Erendira de La Garz
There are many people who claim to know massage; A few do. If there is one person that completely stands out from the rest it is Erendira. We have been inundated with comments about her healing hands.
I cant believe my shoulders says one friend who asks not to be mentioned by name. Another says she has never felt do good after a deep therapeutic massage from Erendira. Her deep Tissue Massage just cant be beat.
Born in Mexico City, she studied her art from professionals and laymen around the country. She has lived in Monterrey, Puebla, DF, and now Las Varas where she continues learning about new and different healing techniques. Her major interest at the moment include native herbal remedies and healing taught by the Apache Indians in the US.
Erendira says she was born with healing hands and that as a child she practiced her art on friends and family. They all told my parents that my hands were a gift.
She is located in Las Varas and comes to the La Peņita Resort every Monday and Wednesday. People outside the park may drive up and schedule an appointment by signing up on the board. If desired she can make an appointment at your home or RV Park if you call her on her cell: 045-(327)-102-1598.
People always ask if I have a table, she says. I do and I tell them I do but the best massage is done on the ground where you can deeply push the muscles.

El Pechugon - Rotisserie
Chicken
El Pechugon is a franchised chain of
rotisserie chicken places that is popping up throughout
North Western Mexico. We are lucky to have an outlet here. A
whole chicken costs 60 pesos, 1/2 for 30 pesos, and comes
with tortillas and chilies. For 10 pesos more you get an
order of those lovely baby potatoes. Always a treat.

We call him Tony Lopez Squared.
He has been working in the La Peņita RV Resort for longer than....well most of us can remember.
Tony is well known and respected in town as a fair and honest guy. As Park Manager, he is front and center at the park. He knows the best places to get a dent repaired, who to see if you need something built, where to go for great tacos. A great friend and someone you try to get to know.

Taco Vicky
Some say that the tacos that you buy from Taco Stands in and around Jaltemba Bay are some of the finest in all of Mexico. Lorena of Taco Vicky serves up some great eats. Taco Vicky's is just of the Avenida one block in from the highway on the left hand side.

Best of Nayarit
Coffee to Wake up in Paradise
Pedro Jimenez Villasenor and his wife operate the Cafe de Occidente on Highway 200 Just north of the Avenida Light. They sell fresh Nayarit Coffee, dark and light beans, and grinds it to your specifications - including espresso. The coffee is certified Organic and costs only 60 pesos a Kilogram. We wouldn't drink anything else in the morning.
This is a wonderful gift to bring home from a trip - inexpensive and always a welcome gift.

Mr Tarantula
Mr. Tarantula and his family live close by and you probably don't even know it. Sure to get a reaction every time he enters room, Mr T is hairy and black, has eight eyes and fangs. Unlike others spiders, he does not spin a web. North American tarantulas are exclusively ground-dwellers and live in burrows or silken retreats on trees, the walls of buildings, in plants such as bananas and pineapples or cliff faces.
Mr. T can inflict a painful bite when threatened but is very unlikely to do so. His venom is considered non-toxic to humans although there is likely to be a rash caused by the hairs. Clean the bite with soap and water and apply anti-infection topical cream. Remove hairs with tape.
Please remember we are in the Tropics. Be careful.

Taxi's in La Peņita - La
Independencia
There are several taxi
companies in our area, but the Bell's
favorite is the one that is located on
the Avenida four blocks in...that's
because we have good old fashioned Scots
blood in us and these guys cost up to 50
per cent less than their competition.

Don Pedro
Don Pedro's Grocery Store is one of several
excellent small grocery stores in La Piņata. but its specialty
is liquor. Often has a 10 per cent discount off the marked
price. Don Pedro himself is often seen behind the counter where
if you have any questions he will be happy to answer you.
Located on the Avenida on your right three blocks down from
highway 200. Also one of the few grocery stores that regularly
stocks leche light.

Need some Bodywork on your Car?
Need some body work on your automobile or truck? Or maybe
that wax job needs a complete overhaul of stripping and
repolishing. Santos and Rudolfo in Monteon do excellent
work and are competitively priced with other body work
places in the area. Heading south towards PV past Monteon
take the third exit on your right, make an immediate left
and two businesses in you'll find Santos and Rudolfo on your
right. Make sure you ask for quote first.

Bernie
Bernie, a true full timer to the Jaltemba Bay area. Bernie
is known to his many amigos for his wit and knowledge of
most things domestics ie. where to get pumps fixed, buy a
certain part etc. A little gruff around the edges, he
rarely turns down a request to assist people. You'll find
him often having breakfast at Hinde and Jaime's along
with his charming and wonderful wife Marty. Both are a real
asset to the community.
Our Town
Charlie
One of the many well known "Charlies" in the Jaltemba Bay area.
This one resides in Los Ayala where he is setting up some bungalows
for his Mexican wife, a doctor from the City of Morelia. Charlie
always has a story to tell...next time you see him ask him about the
urban myth of Los Ayala.
Rosario
Woman about town, Rosario is a true friend of the gringo
community offering advice and a warm smile to all who know her.
At the moment she is serving up a great breakfast at the Yuyi's
Restaurant on the Avenida in La Peņita. On the right just east
of the Avenida Restaurant.
Our Town
Lupita's Bakery
Mmmmmm....good. Lupita is well known to most of us who live in the area,
often giving out advice on the Mexican bureaucracy. But it is her
delicious pastries that keep us coming back to her shop on the Avenida.
One block from the highway on the left hand side. Excellent.

Farmacia Soto
There are many good farmacias in La Penita, but
one of our favorites is Farmacia Soto down at the end of the Avenida on
the left hand side. Not only does Marco Soto speak a little English but
if he doesn't have the product you are looking for he will order it in
for you, usually within two days.
