Hindey and Jaime Bar and Restaurant

Community Focus - Hindey and Jaime's Bar and Restaurant - La Peñita

By Bill and Dorothy

Patty

A legend with La Peñita expats and visitors alike is Hindey and Jaime's. This Bar/Restaurant should not be missed during your visit.

Why? The fish and shrimp tacos are the best on the mainland….perhaps in all of Mexico. Both are prepared in a similar fashion. Small pieces of fish or shrimp are deep fried golden brown and then served in a tortilla with shredded cabbage and carrot. Sound strange? It Isn’t. They are simply magnificent.

The fish and shrimp taco

Wonderful at only 6 pesos each. Even better to wash down a few with a cold Dos XX, Indio or Sol at 12 pesos. A bargain.

Chilli Rellano

Hindey & Jaimies also serves a knock out Chillie Rellano. It is often sold out so if you REALLY REALLY want to make sure you get one, then show up at 3 pm on Fridays – the day that they are made.

And while you are waiting for your food order, go up to the bar and chat with the owner’s daughter Patty. She is going to university in tourism so you can practice your Spanish and she can practice her English.

The bar also offers the best English book shelves in the town. If Pool is your game, come here…..Just go and enjoy.

Directions: At the first stop light make a right into town. Proceed one block before the end of the street and make a right. It is ½ a block in on your right.
