Information about Hermosillo, Mexico

Hermosillo Mexico hotels Founded in 1700 to hold the Seri indians back and to protect the hispanic expansion. It’s original name was Santísima Trinidad del Pitic which was given by its founder, the “Alferez Juan Bautista Escalante”.

Hermosillo hasn’t lost its traditional essence as a Mexican province. As the Capital of the State since 1879, it offers the visitor all the comfort of a large city. Hermosillo is characterized by its modern urbanism which blends old buildings with great province taste. Among the historical constructions, the Government Palace outstands. Famous for its wonderful murals portraying historic events, as well as for the statues of General Ignacio Pesqueira and García Morales. It is located in front of the flowery garden of the Zaragoza Square and its morisco kiosk.

The Asuncion Cathedral, Del Carmen and the Holy Spirit Chapels and the University of Sonora Museum are also representative buildings. Other attractive places are the Sonora Museum, the Culture House, the Popular Arts Museum, the Seri Museum (in Kino Bay, 110 km from Hermosillo) and the Ecological Center, which is an area that preserves the representative flora and fauna of the region. 56 km to the south of Hermosillo, there is an interesting archeological site known as “La Pintada”. Rupestrian drawings can be found at this place, for it once was a shelter for Seri and Pima Indians. Hermosillo has a number of hotels and restaurants, where exquisite regional dishes and international cuisine can be enjoyed. The city has modern recreational facilities such as magnificent golf course, two Tennis Clubs, motorcar race track and a Multiple Uses Center, which can be used for sport and artistic events or conventions.

Hermosillo, “The Sun City” is among the most important and modern cities in the northern part of Mexico. Hermosillo is located just 173 miles from United States, in the central part of the state of Sonora. Hermosillo is a friendly city with a great hospitality that welcomes tourists with open arms. Hermosillo, The capital of Sonora, offers visitors a great variety of services: high quality hotels, restaurants, excellent nightclubs & bars, amusement and relaxing places, shopping centers, theaters, museums and cultural centers to visit. With an annual average weather of 22.4 °C (72°F), with a max of 46°C (114 °F) and a minimum of 2°C (35°F). In Hermosillo there is great industrial commerce because of the closeness to the United States, as well as having an International airport, that hosts great number of travelers all year round including national and international, and the short distance from the port of Guaymas, which opens a connection with the Pacific and the Oriental markets.

One of these roads connects Hermolsillo to its so-called “Hermosillo’s own beach” Kino Bay, due to its closeness to the city (only 100km, some 62 miles), offering all the activities and adventures of this beautiful beach for a great vacation as part of a local attractive. Hermosillo is surrounded by the beautiful architecture with monuments and plazas that lets visitors explore the Historic Center, sample delicious, traditional food and admire the local craftwork. From Hermosillo you can take a short trip to the surrounding nature reserves and enjoy one of the best tourist infrastructures in the country. 56 km (34 Miles) south of Hermosillo, there is an interesting archeological site known as “La Pintada”. Rupestrian drawings can be found at this place, for it once was a shelter for Seri and Pima Indians.
CATHEDRAL OF THE ASSUMPTION IN HERMOSILLO
Located on the main Plaza (Plaza Zaragoza) started its construction in 1877 and finished on 1912, with great inner sceneries, neoclassical facade and Caravaca crosses on its towers and dome are a must place to visit.

Cuisine
In Hermosillo, you can try the delicious Chivichangas made with wheat flour tortillas, the best Carne Asada (grilled beef) in Mexico, Costa Brava shrimps, cocido and the famous and delicious coyotas for dessert. Hermosillo has plenty of nice restaurants, from small downtown fondas to great International cuisine restaurants, located on the hotel Zone.

Hermosillo offers one 18 hole golf course, championship category, that is Private, but open for guest and visitors to Hermosillo. Designed by the renowned firm Graham & Panks International on 195 acres. Los Lagos (The Lakes) is the name of this Club that has 8 artificial lakes and offers additional services such Restaurant, parking lot, day care, first aids, instructors, lockers, dressing rooms, sauna, semi Olympic swimming pool, tennis and Basque ball courts, clinics and private lessons. Handicap program linked to the Arizona Golf Association and USGA.

Night life in Hermosillo
Hermosillo has several attractive places where you can have dinner and enjoy a drink while you listen to live music and have a dance with disco music. Don’t forget to stop by a taco stand after a long night fun and enjoy the great Sonoran beef, where any stand is good for a quality taco.
