New RV Parks in Mexico 2008

Michoacan

Hi Bill and Dorothy!

We, Debbie and Arturo Barrera, Co-Founders of RV Tours Caravans Azteca and San Juan del Lago RV Resort and Campsites, want to tell you that your website is a blessing for all who want to visit Mexico in their RVs.  We would like to know how we can post our information on your site.  We also offer guide and support services for RV caravans through our RV tour company.

We would also like to give you a cordial invitation to come and visit us and get to know everything that this area has to offer.  Once you are here, we will look after you and show you around.  We will introduce you to our brand new RV Destination (with 240 sites) in the heart of Mexico.

Lake Cuitzeo, in the state of Michoacán, offers beautiful nature sights, a spectacular collection of flora and fauna and a slow pace to relax and unwind from all stress.  It has a perfect blend of weather, location, intimacy, tranquility and convenience.  In 2006, Cuitzeo was designated a “Magical Town (Pueblo Mágico)”, which means it offers visitors a “magical” experience, by reason of their natural beauty, cultural riches and historical relevance.

Located only 15 minutes away is Morelia, the state capital of Michoacán, which offers full amenities, shopping centers (Costco, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, etc.), movie theatres, and diverse restaurants that offer the best in national and international cuisine.  In addition, excellent, modern medical facilities are easily accessible.  Morelia’s amazing colonial architecture, vibrant historic downtown area (Centro Histórico) and one of the most striking relics – a mile-long limestone aqueduct, are enchanting.

Being in the center of the country will give you the opportunity to explore many tourist destinations located within a three-hour drive.

If you crave a change from the mainstream, commercialized tourist destinations and desire to explore the rich culture of Mexico, come and stay with us.  The only way to know the country is to take your time and slowly savor every moment.

This area welcomes the opportunity to serve the RV market, and in particular, those seeking to escape the cold, harsh months of winter. Mexico is an exquisite architectural wonder, rich in history, art and culture.  It strikes the perfect balance between culture, progress and nature and provides a beautiful and interesting tourist destination.  The mix of modern and traditional, clichéd and surreal, is the key to Mexico’s charm.

Come visit us and stay a while…

 Debbie and Arturo Barrera

We are confident that our road logs and driving guides will make your highway experiences just that much better and easier. Regardless of whether you are driving an RV or a suburban, a bike or a pick-up, our road logs will assist your journey. Even 20 year veterans of the route have benefited from the information.

We decided to present the road from a driving perspective going SOUTH. When your are looking at the Log, you read from the bottom of the page and read up. The Pacific Ocean, for example, would always be on your right, just as you would view it from your driver's seat.

The KM markings are the markings that you will see as you drive. It doesn't matter if your vehicle reads in miles or kilometers. You just read the signs on the road to get your bearings. Sometimes one highway combines with another and old kilometer signs are left up. Not to worry, just continue to read the guide.

Some of the best navigation points are the Pemex Station numbers clearly marked on all gas station signs. Topes (Mexican speed bumps) are marked in the guide just to remind you to go slow. We included Military and Agriculture check points even though we know these can change frequently. (Generally they are on one side of the state border or another between the Mexican states.)

Kids and Mexico

Bringing kids to Mexico is a fantastic opportunity to have some concerted family time while exploring a different culture. Children of any age are a challenge though so I will be making some recommendations based on 3 kids and nearly two decades coming to Mexico.

Enjoy. Traveling by RV is one of the best ways to visit and truly explore this most intriguing country.

Be prepared for the trip of your lifetime. Saunter through this site and let your imagination run as wild as the waves on a Puerto Escondido Beach. Enjoy beaches, colonial cities, ancient pyramids and small kick back towns in the comfort of your mobile casa.

We ask that you indeed leave footprints. Comment. Write us before and after your trip. Add your name to a growing list of camp site critics. Submit some photos. Add your two pesos.

Be SAFE!  In light of the very unfortunate 2003 incident with the Canadian couple on the Baja, we would like to remind our readers that  Mexico, like anywhere else in the world has its share of bad people.  When you are camping follow these rules.

Guanajuato... después de la obscuridad  (After Dark)

Circumstance, bad luck or fate…call it what you want, but it happens to all of us…and more often or not it will happen when I have a mission.

I had been driving all day to the Mexican city of Guanajuato through the back country of Jalisco, wanting to reach the town before sunset when the light and photographic opportunities in this silver mining region would be at its best.

A blown fan belt in the middle of nowhere put a damper on those hopes and three hours too late I drove into a much darker Guanajuato than I hoped for.  Instead of light playing on the bright colors of hillside homes, it was dark shadows on narrow cobbled stoned streets.  I decided I would experiment,

Using my old Canon digital 10D, I would forsake flash (much too harsh) and push my ASA to the maximum limit of 3200, which would produce enough light but give an orange and grainy hew to the photograph.   Grainy I like in certain circumstances, but the orange glow would have to desaturated so as to make the picture black and white.   A touch of color would be left in each picture.

The result was interesting and shows a side of the city that you will rarely see in the guide books.  The photographs are taken in early evening, mid evening and just before dawn.  I hope you enjoy them.

Mexican BEER

Mexico's claim to fame on the spirits front has always been tequila. What many people do not know, however, is that Mexico is also the world's third-largest beer exporter after Holland and Germany, sending an estimated 229 million gallons a year overseas. And the country's beer exports are likely to increase even further due to skyrocketing demand from the United States, which accounts for 85 percent of export consumption. More...
