Xaltemba - Restaurant and Gallery private reception and unofficial opening was a great success. Guests arrived at 5 and sipped wine and cerveza; botanas were served. The local priest blessed the facilities and the Bob Howell alter.
The restaurant/gallery owners, Roberto Gil de Montes and Eduardo Domínguez were all smiles - greeting guests to the new restaurant and gallery. Both worked hard to completely remodeled the building over the past year; a remarkable feat. Xaltemba looked great.
The Gallery displayed masks from various parts of Mexico - some extremely rare. The gallery is sure to be a success - At the beginning of the event, the entire collection was purchased.
Congratulations Guys!

Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue Our next clinic will be held on November 13th, 14th and 15th at the home of Brian and Carole Francoeur located at Calle Prol. Cabo San Lucas #1, (down Cabo San Lucas, turn left of Calle Prol. Cabo San Lucas, the first new house on the beach) La Peñita. Many thanks to Brian and Carole for offering us their home!!! We will be asking for volunteers, help with snacks and lunch for the volunteers and accommodation for the vets. If you can help in any way, please email Lin Chimes at linchimes@hotmail.com Donations of dog and cat food and newspapers are also needed. Over the summer, Jeanie Mintzmyer has worked with Ceclia on behalf of Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue to help many street animals, providing food, finding homes (always a difficult task!) and veterinary help. Many thanks Jeanie and Ceclia! Bob and Linda Gibbs from Casita de la Peñita brought down surgical supplies including syringes, sutures, catheters, flea medication and sponges donated by Bob’s brother, Brian Gibbs who is a vet in Canada. Thank you so much, Dr. Gibbs, for this generous and thoughtful donation! And thanks to Bob and Linda’s pony express! Lorna Kroll of Kroll’s Surrey Pharmacy in Canada donated boxes of catheters, needles, sterilized gauze, collected and brought down by Faye and Fred Hodson. A very special thank you to Lorna, Fred and Faye. Most of the costs of our clinic involve medical supplies so these donations help us offer free spaying and neutering at a much reduced cost per animal. Also a special thanks to Margaret Garside who donated a total of $175.00 this summer to help our cause. Margaret has been a loyal supporter this past year! We will need more donations in order to offer more clinics in the New Year, to provide food for homeless animals and necessary veterinary care. I have attached flier information. If any of you are in the area and could copy the Spanish version on brightly colored paper to post and hand out, that would be great! Thanks to all of you for your wonderful support! Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue could not do its work without you! Click here to get your English or Spanish Poster

I would like to inform people of some of the updates on our way down this season. The border crossing was streamlined and much better. You can bring in a motor home and tow vehicle. You get a 10 year permit for the motor home and 6 months for the car. If you have an FM-3 they only give you a car permit for the time remaining on your FM-3. Mine expires in March. I am told when I renew my FM-3 I have to go to the Aduna and I will get a car permit that lasts for the same length of time as my FM-3. If I take my car out of the country and bring it back in before the FM-3 expires I do not have to stop at the border. In Hermosillo, at the 2nd left turn there are transito stopping RVs for no reason I can explain and getting $50usd mordida. They are very demanding and rude about it. They got several people we were traveling down with. I am writing the tourist bureau. I certainly don't like to bad mouth parks but because of closures of some parks I think others are really taking advantage. The only RV park in Los Mochis is terrible. The power is low or off. No cleaning or maintenance has been done in a long time. Kids walk along the road and throw rocks at cars and RVs. The bathrooms are appalling, They are charging $20usd. The road to Mazatlan is in the best shape I have seen it. The Pemex stations are excellent rest stops and some even have electricity. Santa Lucia near Costa Rica is one. Las Jaibas RV Park in Mazatlan is, I think the worst we have been to. The manager told us we had no reservations, until we printed off the email confirming it. He then said, although he had agreed to $20usd he insisted on $25usd. He would not collect the money but insisted our group collect it. He said it was too much work. The power was on, off, low and high. The wifi didn't work (because the power was out) and because they turn it off at night. The worst part was there were burrs everywhere and they stuck to shoes and pets and tracked into the rigs. He wanted $60 pesos for a wash and $60 for a dryer. That is almost $6usd. The attitude was if you don't like it all of you can leave. Obviously he knows the other parks have closed and people don't have a choice. We went to the restaurant La Casa Country and we thought it was great. Good food, lots of fun and reasonable. The owner and manager were more than accommodating to us. We arrived as a group of about 30 and there was no problem. For all those that are still traveling down I would stop at Santa Ana, Punta Vista, If you have to stay in Los Mochis stay at the Pemex just south of town. It is large and clean. Pay the guard $30 pesos and he will watch your rig. I would miss Mazatlan completely unless you can get into one of the open parks. Not Las Jaibas. Toll road is open to Tepic. Yeah! |
