PROBLEMAS ACCESSING THE JALTEMBA SOL

Good morning,

Hope all is well in paradise. We are progressing here, as well. Dot, for some reason, I am no longer getting the Express. I got my last one when Larry and Kate were here, and I miss it. Will you please re-subscribe me. I love the paper? Thanks,

Carol and Harold

(Editors Note: Yes we have had great difficulty sending the Express...er...Sol for a couple of reasons. The paperboys' computer system died and we had to take it to Guadalajara. This left our subscription list in a mess.

The second problem is that our (former) name was hijacked. We are now called the Jaltemba Sol.

Adding to the problem is that many people have their computer security systems on High. Some browsers will see that an email has been sent to a hundred paper routes at one time and simply place our community newspaper in the bulk or even the trash bin...

We will re-subscribe you but we ask that when you get the new Jaltemba Sol, you bookmark it on your browser. Every new newspaper replaces the old and it will remain at this location on the web.)

Hola From Patty

Hugs...

BRITISH COLUMBIA INSURANCE REFUNDS

Many of us are aware of the insurance refund available for the time our vehicles spend outside of Canada /USA, namely in Mexico.
ICBC is fairly efficient with the refund, as you turn in receipts showing the date you cross into Mexico, such as your Hologram / Temporary Import receipt, and /or first night RV park receipt, and the date you clear out of Mexico, such as the receipt surrendering your Temporary Import /hologram.

I have dealt with Canadian Direct Insurance here in BC for a number of years. Anyone who has gone to their website or 888-225-5234 and obtained a quote for insurance will realize significant savings over ICBC rates (and I do like to make sure competition is alive and well in BC). When I returned home last spring, I forwarded copies to ICBC to obtain the refund for my basic coverage. As well, I forwarded copies to Canadian Direct for a refund on my optional coverage.  They had refunded the coverage within a few weeks.

At this time, Canadian Direct Insurance does not insure motor-homes or trailers.  However, this can provide significant savings for those who have only dealt with ICBC for their pickups or tow-cars due to the refund "ICBC only" provided in the past.

Lurking the Boards – San Pancho Watch – by Dorothy Bell

I admit that lurking the various community boards has become a habit as I cruise for news in our area. I love to see what’s going on in the communities and reading the boards daily you get a feel for the issues and concerns of the residents. I like the San Pancho board a lot because it has attitude. It talks about real issues and people get angry over important ideas.

Development issues are alive and well debated in San Pancho. It gives me heart to hear that people are concerned about water issues and want to do something about it. Some focus on the notion that the ordinary working Mexicans should be able to own (read afford) property in their own home pueblo; an almost unique cry from the wilderness on this now super-hyped RIVIERA Nayarit Coast where development is king.

I especially like that people care about their community and want to maintain the culture and customs of Mexico and the village. I have shamelessly reprinted some comments from a poster called Tamara.

“Everyone will be arriving soon and it is time to ask ourselves what we can do, individually and collectively, to be a part of San Pancho.
The pueblo is growing and changing and I feel we need to embrace the underlying culture to experience and preserve it.
So, a few suggestions.
If you attend church at home, why not attend church here? Sure it is in Spanish but it is a great opportunity to meet people and get to know their families.
How about eating at the taco stands on the street? All of them use purified water and are very clean.
Ever sat in the park in the evening and had a cup of elote (corn with creme and cheese and chile)? Watched the kids run around, the old men playing dominoes?
There are a lot of volunteer opportunities available as well.
If you are a beach walker, carry a garbage bag with you and do a litter patrol.
The spay and neuter clinic is in November and always needs supplies and hands.
Honajay has new leadership and will be needing help preserving the local jungle that surrounds us. Take a moment to stop by the offices and offer to hike and clean trail.
The kindergarten needs adults to help the teachers with things a simple as helping with snacks or playground monitoring.
Take the time to learn Spanish and talk to people. When you enter a store, always greet the storekeeper. Then at the end of your transactions be sure and say gracias. Manners and respect are a large part of life here, always be on your best behavior! Graciousness goes a long ways. Take the time to talk with people.
I'm sure there are more opportunities. Any other suggestions?
I am proud to be a part of the San Pancho community! Are you?”

The San Pancho Board, Tamara and other posters give us plenty of room for thought about the kind of footprints we leave in our new adopted homes. See San Pancho Message Board here.
