Tribute to Kenny and Jomie

I do not know what to write.
Kenny was the first Gringo resident of Rincon I met the first time I visited Rincon with Jonsie.
I will always miss his big hearted smile and his dance moves.
He will be greatly missed.
Get better soon Jomy.

Margaret & Danny Jr. called me to let our family know we lost Kenny. They directed me to this site and I will let the rest of the family know too. I am totally devastated by the news, as is everyone. My thoughts are with Jomie for a speedy recovery and to Tonya & Teresa. My memories of Kenny & Jomie are from Cassidy, Kansas. I remember thinking...what a great place to grow up in, maybe it was just that Kenny and Jomie were a part of it. I remember the dancing all night long and then going back to the trailer and the adults would be up into the wee hours of the morning catching up with each other. I know Kenny will be missed by many, he touched many lives.

WHATEVER BLOWS YOUR SKIRT UP

Words from a friend
I will never forget
Live for today
Without regret

His heart and soul
revealed the real
Smiles and jokes
Completed the deal

The meaning of life
Enjoy - Take a chance
Those of his friends
Use those words to enhance

His life was his movie
He created the scene
Laughing - A hobby
He refrained to be mean

Can we talk?
Of course we can
Short, shorts 4 wheeler Kenny
What a hell of a man

I just found out this tragic news today, and as I tried to reply, I began to cry so I went home to get my thoughts together. I want to say how sorry I am to Joamie, and their daughters. Two people who have treated me like a daughter for several years, with spirit that can only be an influence to us all. Joamie, I have faith you´ll be putting your dance shoes on before soon, being the best partener I have had on the dance floor. I am sorry I missed the service, I miss you all very much. I am in Guadalajara right now, please feel free to contact me. tracyedwards26@hotmail.com I am devestated for the loss of Guayabitos, all the friends, and family this has affected. Miss you all. Our hearts go our to Jomie and the rest of the community.  God bless you all.

Don't know if you're going to have a section regarding Kenny in the Jaltemba Sol, but wanted to send our deepest sympathy and regards to Jomie and the community on the loss of Kenny.  We just left there two days ago after spending three weeks of enjoying their great hospitality and are in total shock of this terrible accident.  Kenny had a heart of gold and truly appreciated life and the people around him and encouraged others to take the time to enjoy life also.  Our friendship has grown so much over the past several years and they had become family to us.  Kenny will be sorely missed by us and many of our fiends who had the privilege to meet him.  Our trips to Guayabitos will not be the same without his infamous presence and great sense of humor.  Our hearts go our to Jomie and the rest of the community.  God bless you all.

PLEASE....keep us informed on Jomie's condition.........

We've never had more loyal and dependable friends/fans than Kenny and Jomie.
They were always there for us for our endeavors from the beginnig and we will want to do what we can for Jomie. If Jamie can rise for another occasion and put on a benefit/memorial on a Sunday afternoon, we'd love to participate. We are all devastated and praying for Jomie's swift physical recovery.

Carol and Harold Henline on Fri Dec 05, 2008 6:55 am

We are in shock and total disbelief at the tragic news of Kenny and Jomie's accident. As most of you know, we are very close to both, and have been from the time we first met years ago. Kenny, with Harold as his "assistant and go-for", acquired an abandoned oil drum, and with numerous parts from junk yards, friends, etc., built what became known as the famous "Road Kill Grill". Kenny was a genius at building anything from nothing. The months of building the grill and the years of going around the community putting on cook-outs for restaurants, rodeo grounds, schools and whoever wanted the use of the grill, Harold and Kenny were there with anticipation, with no pay, just the joy of helping, cemented a lifelong friendship. Kenny was a wonderful friend and confidant, truly one of a kind who will never be replaced. Our hearts are with Jomie and their family, and hope their daughters know how much Kenny was loved by the entire community. If we are to learn anything of Kenny's life and death, we will enjoy life, love our friends and family, and give service to our community. Our prayers are with Jomie for a full recovery. She will need her faith and friends to see her through this difficult time. I wish I could be there to help her. We love you, Jomie.

Eleanor Dickinson on Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:25 am

There is nothing to say that can express my overwhelming grief for Jomie and her children. Kenny was a part of my (and Jim's) lives for the past twelve years. He enriched our retirement. Please express my sympathy and love to Jomie when she is able to receive such. Steve, Blanca, Heather, David, Ian, Jan and I will most assuredly be praying for Jomie's recovery and for the peace and contentment of her family. The sun has faded on the horizon of our lives and another star will shine in the heavens.

Eleanor Dickinson
I have been so devastated over the loss of Kenny.  I ate lunch with them one time over at the Kissing Beach and they always waved to me daily as they passed by to go there.  I was so used to seeing them pass by on their red four-wheeler..  There was so many times I felt alone here, but just knowing they were around, made me feel better!  I have thought about it day and night and think of what a special man and a loving lady those two were and are.  Kenny was such a character.  I saw them dancing together at the Bavarian Gardens and I thought how much fun they were together and so in love and happy....anyways, thanks for putting those beautiful pictures of him on your front page and remembering him!

In reading the news about the loss of Kenny Thompson I am so deeply saddened. It has always been a special part of my trip when I come down to see my parents (Marty and Bernie) to get a big ol hug from Kenny. He and Jomie have become a part of my family and will be immensely missed.

I will continue to keep Jomie and the Thompson family in my thoughts and prayers. I know Jomie has great friends and tremendous support in all of you.

From the first days of our visiting rincon de Guayabitos we met Kenny and his friends, we danced, sang and enjoyed each others company to the fullest at every occasion we possibly could. His huge heart was givin freely to anyone that wished to share it with him and his hand was there as well to support you if you needed it. He always had a huge smile and a hug to make you feel welcomed. Although Jomie came later in our lives it was so wonderful to get to know her and her lovely face. Her love for Kenny is an inspiration to all young and old people alike that was so evident in her eyes.
We all realize that we have lost a great friend, and thank god we still have the other, via con dios our Texas friend.
Peace and Love

by Diann and Dennis on Fri Dec 05, 2008 10:01 am

As others have expressed, Kenny and Jomie were greatly loved by all who met them. We first met Ken, fourteen years ago when we were working at Tonita's on the beach. Dennis and Kenny became fast friends, and we were soon caught up in his love for Mexico and the Mexican people. Over the years, they have become part of our family. When our families arrived in Rincon, they were just naturally included in all that was happening. Our family was their family too, and although we never had the privilege of meeting their two girls and their grandchildren, they are part of our hearts as well.

The shock of it all has still not completely settled in, but we definitely want to do something to help. If you are going to the hospital, please give Jomie a kiss from us and let her know how sorry we are to hear

by Bob & Linda Gibbs on Fri Dec 05, 2008 10:59 am

We first met Kenny & Jomi 9 years ago when we arrived in La Penita in June of 2000. This was a much smaller community back then and so many of us spent time together at a couple of our favourite watering holes and at the Karaoke bar in Guayabitos. Life moved a little slower back then in this area but it was still a couple of nights a week singing Karaoke, listening to Jacqui sing somewhere or just kibitzing at one of the bars. Kenny & Jomi were always there to give support to the owners and to make sure a fun time was being had by all. Of course, we were all a little younger then too but we hung in there as much as we could, considering we were also running a new business. Jomi was encouraging in helping all us "old gals" learn to line dance at every available moment, especially when the young locals were on the floor showing us the "how to". The dance floor was a little less crowded in those days but we all partied, danced & most of all laughed. Not many of us could sing very well but Kenny encouraged us to get up and "who cares" was the attitude of the night. It was 9 years ago that we first heard Kenny sing "All my Ex's Live in Texas" and since we have learned the news of the accident, this tune will not leave our minds. Every time we hear this song on the radio, no matter where we are, whether it is here, in Canada or on the road, it has always been "Kenny's song" to us. Kenny was an ICON in Guayabitos Bay. Jomi always told us that Kenny needed to make his rounds. That was his daily routine and they wanted to support everyone. I'm really going to miss his "hello darlin" whenever he saw me, not to mention his kiss on the cheek or his bear hug. He loved the world and lived his life to the fullest that he knew how. His daily rounds to his favorite spots were an expression of his love for life and people. The owners and patrons will miss him for years to come. Kenny touched the hearts of people from all over North America. We wish we could be there to help give our time to Jomi but we want her and her family to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers at this time of loss and healing for Jomi and her family. Both our sons, Rob & Tyler also send their condolences and hope for all the best for Jomi's health.

My heart and prayers go out to Jomie and her girls on the loss of their beloved Kenny. To know Kenny was to love Kenny. During my first winter in Guayabitos, I had the priviledge of meeting Kenny and Jomie and now consider them family. Kenny never tired of telling me ''I was OK for a french person''. His parting words to me that tragic night were ''I love you''. I will cherish them forever.

Jomie, please know that I am there for you.

Kenny was one of those "bigger than life" kind of people. Always laughing at himself or was ready to laugh with you. But he never laughed at you. He was always helping people but you never heard him talk about it. I will miss him deeply.

Jonie's work with breast cancer victims touches many lives. If a fund to help with her medical expenses is created please post the information on this forum.Bawbby

We are shocked and sadened by the passing of Kenny. It is hard to imagine someone who was so alive and touched so many lives, as being gone. Please give a Jomi a kiss and wish her a fast healing. Please inform us of any way to help Jomi with her medical bills. We are still in a state of shock. If there is anything that we can do, please let us know at once.

When we had the Beso del Sol, Kenny and Jomi were always the highlight of our evenings. I will never forget my first meeting with Kenny, a kiss and the words " I can see this is not your first time at a rodeo." A character always, a generous and caring member of the community. He will be sorely missed, but thank goodness we still have Jomi. Cathleen DouglassElden and Cathleen Douglass

Jomie, although I don't know if we have met, my heart goes out to you in a strange sort of coincidence.

My daughter lent me a novel to read called "Anybody Out There," by author Marian Keyes. Just last night I got to the part where a young woman, married less than a year, finally realizes that after the car crash in which her face was badly scarred and she sustained other injuries and her husband died...he was never coming back. She had gone through months of physical pain but had not yet realized her loss. I grabbed my sleeping husband, held on to him and cried. Then this evening I read of your distress.

I don't yet know the rest of the woman's story, but I believe she somehow finds the strength to go on and live her life. If you would like, I will bring you the book and if need be read it to you. I will be thinking of you and praying for your healing. You or your friends can let me know at 274-3417.

Your new friend,

We saw Kenny at Mateja's on monday, as usual we received Big hugs and kisses from him he was so happy that I finally retired and looked forward to seeing us more often. As soon as we got in the car Guylaine commented on how Kenny had never changed since we met him in 1999, "still looking as good as ever and always smiling". Little did we know it would be the last time we shared some time together. When Kenny and Jomie walked in one of their favorite places, they always brought so much energy the place just lit up. We had many conversations together through the years but this one will stay with me forever. Kenny shared with me how much pain he was still feeling from the violent and tragic death of his son and how he was still deeply affected by it. Now I understood how Kenny always had a special place in his heart for those struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol as he saw first hand their destructive effects. Kenny touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed, he was a true gentlemen.

Jomie our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy, we are comforted to know that you are under the care of Dr. Pepe who I am sure will do everything humanly possible to pull you through this.

We send our love and prayers,

Mike Guylaine and Sophiecasavidalinda

One of the last of the true and sincere American Ambassadors in our little world. Friend to all, but especially to those passed over or knocked down in life. I am sure he will be missed by as many, or more, Mexican families than most realize.

Happy in my life to have known him. I cannot imagine Jomi's loss, but can only wish her God's speed.
