Carneceria Miramar...quality over quantity
Story and photographs by Adam Caddell
No one can deny that gringos know their stuff when
it comes to meat. We are an unappeasable and picky bunch who chooses
quality over quantity. When everyday in Jaltemba Bay is a perfect day
for a BBQ, where can the most persnickety turn to for the best of the
best?
Carneceria Miramar has been serving the Jaltemba Bay
area with fresh meat and poultry for several years. The family run
business is the favorite amongst the gringo community and is owned and
operated by Pancho and his wife Mirna Daniel.

Mexicana initiates flights to Edmonton and Calgary
Mexicana Airlines has
initiated operations on the Mexico City–Calgary and Mexico City-Edmonton
routes, with a view to strengthening its presence on the international
market in general and the Canadian market in particular, where it now
flies to five cities, including Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Four flights a week will be available on the Mexico City-Calgary route,
while flights on
the Mexico City-Edmonton route will run three times a week, offering
passengers daily
services to the Canadian province of Alberta.
These services will be operated using modern Airbus A319 aircraft with a
capacity of
108 seats in Coach Class and 12 in the carrier’s award-winning Clase
Ejecutiva
business class. Passengers en route from Alberta will now be able to
catch convenient
connecting flights from the Mexico City International Airport to beach
destinations and
colonial cities in Mexico, or to cities served by the carrier in Central
and South America
and the rest of the world via its commercial alliances, opening up a
whole new world of
possibilities for both business and leisure passengers and putting the
world-class
services of Mexicana Airlines at their disposal.
- Mexicana’s announcement of this new flight to Calgary is the
culmination of three
years of close cooperation with Travel Alberta and other partners from
Alberta, who
have been developing strategies to promote Alberta as the preferred
destination of
Mexicans,” said Travel Alberta Executive Director Derek Coke-Kerr.
- We are forging ahead and consolidating our position as the main
international airline
operating out of Mexico. These new flights confirm Mexicana’s commitment
to the
North American market, where Canada is a major bastion for our company,”
said
Mexicana Customer Services and Corporate Communications Sr. Vice
President
Adolfo Crespo.
According to information furnished by the airline, more than 24,000
passengers a year
are expected to travel on these routes, which translates into an
occupation level of
63%, comprised of Mexicans visiting Canada for business or leisure and
residents of
Alberta eager to enjoy Mexico’s warm weather and sample its exotic
cuisine.
In the first quarter of 2008, Mexicana transported almost one million
passengers
between Mexico and the United States and Canada, positioning it as the
Mexican
carrier with the greatest volume of passengers on these markets, almost
three times

Christmas in July!
Think Christmas in July.
Last season, through the Barbie Angel project,
250 barbie dolls, each with several outfits, were
distributed to local
children for Christmas. Dawn Blevings and I have
spent the past 6
months making new hand crocheted outfits for the
coming Hoilday season
and will continue to do so until Christmas. Now
we need dolls to put
them on. So check out you local yard and garage
sales, thrift shops.
Many previous dolls have also come from folks
contacting people at
their churches and work places. As long as the
dolls are still in good
shape, we have volunteers who will give them a
bath, do their hair and
dress them. Please contact me if you have dolls
to donate or spare
space in your vehicle to transport them to
Guayabitos area. Thanks to
all of you who have helped in the past and to
those of you who will be
adding to our supply this season. The joy on the
faces of the little
girls who receive the dolls warms your heart and
in turn helps us
contribute to a joyful Holiday. Geri aka Luisa <gd1935@goldrush.com>
Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor: I want to thank the Jaltemba
Sol for the recent, informative article with pictures of the new
LaPinta Police Department officers. I recently had a car break
down south of Guaybitos on the highway, and was pleasantly surprised
to be rescued by our local police. Because of the pictures, I
was not afraid to see five strange men with guns appear because I
recognized them from the photos. I was so impressed with the
officers' professionalism and sincere help! They not only got
me off the highway, thus avoiding causing an accident, but they
radioed for a mechanic to come there, (which I couldn't do by
myself), and stayed to ensure my safety- while conversing in
English. There are not many officers north of the border that would
have gone so above and beyond to help a foreigner. I wish to assure
the gringo community that the new LaPinta law enforcement attitude
is service! I have such piece of mind that now if I ever need
assistance, I don't have to panic that I can't express the problem
in Spanish. These fine men deserve respect for their
dedication to the community and their contribution to making
LaPenita such a safe and wonderful place to live. Thank you
gentlemen! Tara Spears
(Editor: Could you please run their pictures
again? These good guys deserve the recognition....)

We have enjoyed looking at the pictures of your
site. We are very fond of Mexico, and have also been looking
at RV’s – so your site was a great find.

Looking for a great
wedding photographer?
Hola
My husband Bruce and I live
in the residential area of Guayabitos and are lucky.JPG)
enough to live on the beach.
Last year friends of our son got engaged on the beach in
front of our casa. It
was their first visit to Guayabitos and they fell in love
with the whole area.
They liked it so much that they returned this year to get
married on the same
spot where they got engaged.
Because they arrived only a few days before the wedding,
I looked after most of the arrangements.
Everything turned out beautifully.
The professional photographer did a wonderful job; as did
the owners of Torre
Blanca Hotel where the fiesta was held and the florist
who did the flowers was
also very good.
I can't say enough good things about how beautiful the
setting was, how
delicious the meal was and how great the service was at
Jardin De La Torre (the
restaurant at Torre Blanca Hotal). We were blown away
with how well all the
details were looked after.
It took me a while to find a photographer, but the one I
found was superb (Yaro
of Digitalo in La Penita)
The flowers were arranged by Los Petalitos (on the
highway in La Penita)and were
beautiful.
I'm sure that there must be other visitors down here who
might want professional
services for one special occasion or another, and won't
necessarily know where
to look.
I was wondering if you could make reference in the
Jaltemba Sol to Xavier and
Lorenia Flores, the owners of Restaurant
Jardin De La Torre, Yara Palomera
of
Digitalo Photography, Audio & Video and the florist at
Los Petalitos.
I have done extensive blogging about the wedding and if
you would like to take a
look at my blog, just click on:

If you should decide to make reference to the above
mentioned local services,
please feel free to use any of my pictures or text in my
blog.
If you want any further information, please let me know.
Thank you, Jeanette Johnstone

Summer is here and
entreamigos Summer Workshops are in full swing in San Pancho! More than
100 kids are joining us this year for classes in English, Computers,
Swim Lessons and a variety of art, sports and ecology classes. This year
our Summer Workshop schedule is impressive with 42 different classes and
more than 50 volunteers!

This weekend is our annual community
reforestation event, Planta San Pancho 2008! It will be bigger than ever
as we have joined forces with government, private and community
organizations to create a true eco-celebration in our little town.

As always, the success of the summer depends in
part on the sponsorships that visitors and residents provide for us.
Please consider sponsoring a child or Planta San Pancho this year... but
first, read more below about our summer fun!

PLANTA SAN PANCHO 2008

This Saturday, July 19th we will join forces to
plant 100's of trees and plants in San Pancho's annual community
reforestation event. This year's reforestation event, called Planta San
Pancho 2008, will have three major focuses:

• We will be reforesting in the lower San Pancho
river area and other community spaces;

• We will be offering trees to people in a
door-to-door planting campaign, and;

• We will be sending biologists to the estuary to
begin a project to document and maintain a scientific and cultural
archive of the estuary and it's importance to San Pancho.

Everyone is invited to join us. There will be
T-shirts, music, food and lots of educational displays for you to enjoy,
so join us this Saturday, July 19th at 10 am - and bring your neighbors!

The Circus is Coming to San Pancho

One of our most exciting workshops this year will
be a two week course offered by the Circus Troupe from Barcelona, Spain.
They will teach workshops in juggling, trapeze and clowning and will be
working with the older kids to create a documentary film of the
experience. They received an International grant for the work that they
are doing and we are thrilled to be hosting them!

Swimming Lessons for All

This year, more than 75 children will learn to
swim or improve their skills during the Summer Workshops. Swim Lessons
are given by Alfredo C. and his team of volunteers. We will continue our
Lifeguard class for youth and this year for the first time we will offer
a Learn to Swim class for Adults. Despite our location next to the
sea... very few people in San Pancho have ever learned to swim. This
year we will once again be using Skip and Nancy's pool and we will be
expanding to use Jill and Linc's pool next door. Wow.... let the fun
begin!

Thank you to everyone for your continued support
of entreamigos. We are looking forward to an amazing summer of fun and
education!

Entreamigos
primary focus is to increase educational opportunities for the children
of San Pancho in Nayarit, Mexico. To achieve these goals Entreamigos
runs an art collective non-profit store, a library, a computer center
and a collection of educational and community based workshops and
initiatives. Entreamigos is entirely funded by donations and almost
completely run by volunteers. For more information about our programs
and activities and how you can help, please visit
