Carneceria Miramar...quality over quantity

Story and photographs by Adam Caddell

No one can deny that gringos know their stuff when it comes to meat. We are an unappeasable and picky bunch who chooses quality over quantity. When everyday in Jaltemba Bay is a perfect day for a BBQ, where can the most persnickety turn to for the best of the best?

Carneceria Miramar has been serving the Jaltemba Bay area with fresh meat and poultry for several years. The family run business is the favorite amongst the gringo community and is owned and operated by Pancho and his wife Mirna Daniel.

Move Over Oaxaca, Arty Michoacán Is Calling

IT all started with an enormous green ceramic pineapple. Seconds after it caught my eye in the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City, I began to covet it. The label revealed that the piece had been made in Michoacán, a Mexican state along the southwest coast. Oddly enough, over the next hour, almost every time an especially fantastic object caught my attention, the provenance on the label was always the same: Michoacán. …..More

Mexico can't revel in drug submarine's capture

MEXICO CITY — The capture was worthy of an action thriller: elite Mexican troops rappelling from a helicopter onto the deck of a mysterious submarine. The 33-foot vessel turned out to be crammed with parcels believed to contain cocaine, possibly tons. Its disheveled crew of four emerged in stocking feet and baggy shorts, saying they had shipped out from Colombia a week earlier under threat of death. . ….More

Puerto Vallarta - Leading Mexico mortgage broker MEXLend today announced the first dollar loan closing in Puerto Vallarta with banking partner Scotiabank. Already the principal mortgage broker for Mexico and the Puerto Vallarta area, MEXLend now offers additional lending programs for investors looking to purchase residential properties in Mexico.
http://banderasnews.com/images/spacer.gif
"Our partnership with Scotiabank is just one more way that we can help foreign investors purchase homes in Mexico. Being the first or closing the most loans is exciting for us, but it's only one indicator of our dedication to bringing our clients the most options available. We will continue to add more lenders and more programs to meet the needs of investors," says Terence L. Reilly, CEO of MEXLend.

With the real estate markets foundering in the United States, many investors are turning to Mexico to make investments in primary or secondary homes. Through MEXLend, Scotiabank is offering US dollar loans on Mexico properties for US and Canadian citizens. In addition to the dollar loan program, MEXLend also offers peso lending programs for Mexican nationals and expatriates.

"By offering dual programs, both in dollars and pesos, we can help any qualified buyer with their purchase of property in Mexico. Mexico is a strong market now and predictions say that it will continue to be over the next fifteen years," says David Schwendeman, MEXLend President. "Investors looking to diversify in Mexico real estate will find that we have a program for them, no matter what their needs are."

"Peso loans are particularly valuable to expatriates and anyone who makes a living in Mexico," adds Josh Rappaport, Senior Loan Officer and Director of MEXLend's peso loan programs. "Investing in real estate now, before prices start rising is an excellent way for residents to start building wealth and protect themselves from economic downturns."

Christmas in July!Naked girls at Christmas

Think Christmas in July. Last season, through the Barbie Angel project,
250 barbie dolls, each with several outfits, were distributed to local
children for Christmas. Dawn Blevings and I have spent the past 6
months making new hand crocheted outfits for the coming Hoilday season
and will continue to do so until Christmas. Now we need dolls to put
them on. So check out you local yard and garage sales, thrift shops.
Many previous dolls have also come from folks contacting people at
their churches and work places. As long as the dolls are still in good
shape, we have volunteers who will give them a bath, do their hair and
dress them. Please contact me if you have dolls to donate or spare
space in your vehicle to transport them to Guayabitos area. Thanks to
all of you who have helped in the past and to those of you who will be
adding to our supply this season. The joy on the faces of the little
girls who receive the dolls warms your heart and in turn helps us
contribute to a joyful Holiday. Geri aka Luisa <gd1935@goldrush.com>

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor:  I want to thank the Jaltemba Sol for the recent, informative article with pictures of the new LaPinta Police Department officers.  I recently had a car break down south of Guaybitos on the highway, and was pleasantly surprised to be rescued by our local police.  Because of the pictures, I was not afraid to see five strange men with guns appear because I recognized them from the photos.  I was so impressed with the officers' professionalism and sincere help!  They not only got me off the highway, thus avoiding causing an accident, but they radioed for a mechanic to come there, (which I couldn't do by myself), and stayed to ensure my safety- while conversing in English. There are not many officers north of the border that would have gone so above and beyond to help a foreigner.  I wish to assure the gringo community that the new LaPinta law enforcement attitude is service!  I have such piece of mind that now if I ever need assistance, I don't have to panic that I can't express the problem in Spanish.  These fine men deserve respect for their dedication to the community and their contribution to making LaPenita such a safe and wonderful place to live.  Thank you gentlemen!     Tara Spears

(Editor: Could you please run their pictures again?  These good guys deserve the recognition....)

We have enjoyed looking at the pictures of your site.  We are very fond of Mexico, and have also been looking at RV’s – so your site was a great find.

The Circus is Coming to San Pancho
http://banderasnews.com/images/spacer.gif
One of our most exciting workshops this year will be a two week course offered by the Circus Troupe from Barcelona, Spain. They will teach workshops in juggling, trapeze and clowning and will be working with the older kids to create a documentary film of the experience. They received an International grant for the work that they are doing and we are thrilled to be hosting them!

Swimming Lessons for All
http://banderasnews.com/images/spacer.gif
This year, more than 75 children will learn to swim or improve their skills during the Summer Workshops. Swim Lessons are given by Alfredo C. and his team of volunteers. We will continue our Lifeguard class for youth and this year for the first time we will offer a Learn to Swim class for Adults. Despite our location next to the sea... very few people in San Pancho have ever learned to swim. This year we will once again be using Skip and Nancy's pool and we will be expanding to use Jill and Linc's pool next door. Wow.... let the fun begin!
http://banderasnews.com/images/spacer.gif
Thank you to everyone for your continued support of entreamigos. We are looking forward to an amazing summer of fun and education!
