Just another sunset over Jaltemba Bay Photograph by Bill Bell By Adam Caddell In Mexico, just like Canada and the United States, there are sketchy areas of any town. Some like to buy home security systems complete with all the bells and whistles; others prefer barbed wire and broken glass. Luckily, I have the best block watch program in town. Along my street, Americo Vespucio, there is a man sitting in a plastic chair who watches his neighborhood like a hawk. Every car and passerby greets him, and in return he grants them with a friendly smile and a wave of his hand. His name is Don Enrique and has lived here for more than forty years. Now eighty years old, Enrique is a source of information for those who want to know what Jaltemba was like in simpler times. For the complete story click here

Dear Editor: I want to thank the Jaltemba Sol for the recent, informative article with pictures of the new LaPinta Police Department officers. I recently had a car break down south of Guaybitos on the highway, and was pleasantly surprised to be rescued by our local police. Because of the pictures, I was not afraid to see five strange men with guns appear because I recognized them from the photos. I was so impressed with the officers' professionalism and sincere help! They not only got me off the highway, thus avoiding causing an accident, but they radioed for a mechanic to come there, (which I couldn't do by myself), and stayed to ensure my safety- while conversing in English. There are not many officers north of the border that would have gone so above and beyond to help a foreigner. I wish to assure the gringo community that the new LaPinta law enforcement attitude is service! I have such piece of mind that now if I ever need assistance, I don't have to panic that I can't express the problem in Spanish. These fine men deserve respect for their dedication to the community and their contribution to making LaPenita such a safe and wonderful place to live. Thank you gentlemen! Tara Spears (Editor: Could you please run their pictures again? These good guys deserve the recognition....)
