Ja’qui Needs Your Help

At press time Ja’qui remains in the Compostela prison. Her frail health is well known within our community and her partner Sara has delivered doctor’s documents to authorities to that effect.

Ja’qui is not a flight risk and should be under house arrest to ensure her health and dietary requirements are met. As a community we can all take 2 minutes to write the American Embassy and ask them to ensure that Ja’qui is released immediately for those reasons.

consularagentpvr@prodigy.net.mx

The US Embassy is charged with the responsibility to help Americans who have been incarcerated in another country. The following is information from their website:

SUMMARY: One of the most essential tasks of the Department of State and of U.S. embassies and consulates abroad is to provide assistance to U.S. citizens incarcerated abroad. The State Department is committed to ensuring fair and humane treatment for American citizens imprisoned overseas. We stand ready to assist incarcerated citizens and their families within the limits of our authority, in accordance with international law. We can and do monitor conditions in foreign prisons and immediately protest allegations of abuse against American prisoners. We work with prison officials to ensure treatment consistent with internationally recognized standards of human rights and to ensure that Americans are afforded due process under local laws.

Take 2 minutes to help ensure the Embassy and local Consulate understands that there are grounds to have her removed from prison for serious health concerns and placed under house arrest until the legal issues can be resolved.
