Jungle Wildlife
By Tara Spears
If you have ever dreamed of a going on
a safari to see exotic animals, there is no need to leave this
continent. The jungles of
the Riviera Nayarit are teeming with interesting mammals, including big
cats; hundreds of bird species; massive and weird looking reptiles,
amphibians, and more varieties of insects than you can imagine.
Local jungle adventure tours provide a narrated highlight of
fauna-but for the more daring, a solitary hike away from any roads will
also yield lots of interesting photos and up close experiences.

Mataja Wins Slander Suit
Mateja has won her court case against Diane Wardell (AKA
Diane Bell). A jubilant Mateja expressed relief at the victory. "Yes the
Mexican Legal system works." she said last night to friends over the
Thanksgiving Dinner. "It's taken awhile but Dianne has been found
guilty," Mateja said waving the judicial papers. See the
Judiical papers to see recommended penalties.
See the Spanish
Court document here.
Mateja was quick to point out that she always just wanted
the lies and slander to stop but was forced to proceed through the
courts when Wardell continued to slander her and her business. "This is
a victory for my friends and family and workers who have also suffered
from the slander. We won."

Doing Good for the Community:
Dedicated Fashion Show Directors
Debra Triplett and
Kate Baron
By Tara Spears
Kate & Debra
One of the most popular ‘things to do’ for the last
five winters has been to attend the annual Mujeres a Mujeres Fashion
Show, and this season’s event will be just as spectacular. Not many
women would turn down the opportunity to dress up, eat out, and shop! If
that isn’t motivation enough, the fact that all proceeds from the event
benefit local charities is the deciding perk. As is true of any
successful event, lots of time and effort comes first. It takes 50
volunteers to make the fashion show an enjoyable afternoon. For the two
dynamic directors, Debra Triplett and Kate Baron, who handle the major
planning, coordinating, and negotiating, the four months prior to the
show is a whirlwind of activity.
Since both ladies had successful professional
careers NOB, leadership is second nature to Debra and Kate. Debra was an
advertising ke y account
specialist for five of Clear Channels’ stations in Portland, Oregon, and
Kate was a junior high school teacher-clearly they know how to deal with
pressure. These civic minded gals want to positively impact the Riviera
Nayarit community that has been home for the last four years. “I
love seeing how much the women enjoy participating in the show, and how
the entire community has embraced and supported the event,” said Debra.
( photo, left) Many would consider putting together a luncheon and
show for 300 people a formidable task, but Kate and Debra manage it with
a smile. Kate says, “I enjoy the organizing aspects, the camaraderie,
and the promotion of unity toward a common goal.”
About 15 years ago, Debra and her husband, Glen, fell in love with the
Guayabitos area that they visited while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta.
They decided that they would retire to this tropical area, and now
operate a small bed and breakfast. They have three grown sons that
live and work in the US but that are frequent visitors to Mexico.
Kate and her husband, Larry, relocated from International Falls,
Minnesota, where harsh, snow-filled winters are the norm. Now, the
Baron’s are avid year round golfers with Mexico’s fantastic weather.
Kate and Larry have four children and nine grandchildren living in the
northern US. “There’s always a birthday to celebrate,” quips the
energetic Kate. (photo

These two vivacious, caring ladies feel good
about their efforts to organize the Annual Mujeres a Mujeres (women to
women) fashion show. This event reflects the true spirit of the Riviera
Nayarit community: a blending of international people coming together
for a worthwhile purpose. In the past, proceeds have helped cancer
patien ts
and built a kitchen in a senior center. Unlike several other local
fundraisers that sponsor a particular cause, the assignment of Fashion
Show funds is designed to be awarded annually to a high need project or
group that benefits local women. If you know of a local organization or
project that needs help, PLEASE contact the Jaltemba Bay Foundation,
Debra
