Mexico auctions off $400 million in currency reserves

Free Spanish LessonsMEXICO CITY -- Mexico's central bank says it has auctioned off $400 million in foreign currency reserves in a continuing effort to prop up the battered peso.

The bank says it sold the reserves Wednesday at an average of 12.8 pesos to the dollar.

The peso gained slightly after the sale, but then slipped and remains down by about 3.3 percent
