Families of America's Veterans Get Some Good News
David Lord - PVNN

Recession is when a neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours.

If you're struggling with an elderly loved one, who also happens to be one of America's veterans, relief is around the corner. The Veterans Administration has increased its payment in the "Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit" Program.

The increased benefit will help tens of thousands of families afford help. "This year veterans are eligible for up to 16-hundred dollars per month from the VA." A couple can qualify for up to 19-hundred dollars per month, both amounts are an increase of $100 dollars over last year. There are nearly 24 million veterans, of all ages, in the United States.

Punishment More Likely For Some Wounded US Soldiers
The Washington Times /AP reports US Army Warrior Transition units were "created for troops recovering from injuries," but commanders "at Fort Bragg's transition unit readily acknowledge holding them to the same standards as able-bodied soldiers in combat units, often assigning chores as punishment for minor infractions. The unit has a discipline rate three times as high as Fort Bragg's main tenant, the 82nd Airborne Division, and transition units at two other bases punish their soldiers even more frequently than the one at Fort Bragg," according to a review of records. Advocates for wounded soldiers "question whether the tough-love approach is an effort to get rid of soldiers considered unlikely to return to regular duty."

TRICARE Beneficiaries Have Access to DoD Self-Service Logon
FALLS CHURCH, Va. - The Department of Defense (DoD) family member account to access the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) has a new name and the Web site has a new look. It is now called "DS Logon." A DoD Self-Service Logon - or "DS Logon" - is a secure credential issued to uniformed service members, spouses, and other family members 18 and older who are eligible for benefits in the DEERS system. It allows access to secure DoD web applications.

A DS Logon electronically links a TRICARE beneficiary's identity to their medical records, pay and human resource systems, and allows them to access different web applications, such as the beneficiary web enrollment website dmdc.osd.mil/appj/bwe/. For more information about requesting a DS Logon, visit dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dsaccess/pub/FAQ.do. Visit tricare.mil/mybenefit/ for information about TRICARE benefits.

About TRICARE Management Activity and the Military Health System
TRICARE Management Activity, the Defense Department activity that administers the health care plan for the uniformed services, retirees and their families, serves more than 9.4 million eligible beneficiaries worldwide in the Military Health System (MHS).

The mission of the MHS is to enhance Department of Defense and national security by providing health support for the full range of military operations. The MHS provides quality medical care through a network of providers, military treatment facilities, medical clinics and dental clinics worldwide. For more about the MHS go to health.mil.

NOTE: some information has been given out in Puerto Vallarta that Tri Care does not cover you in Mexico. This is NOT correct, you are reimbursed for the covered condition as if you were a member of Tri-Care Standard versus Tri-Care Prime policy, this means the benefit will cover 75% of the cost of medical service, while you pay the 25% balance.
