Día de los Muertos, Monday Nov 2nd

La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit October 23, 2009 - The nights are drawing in… the rains are drying up… and in lovely green windswept La Peñita, Xaltemba is dusting off her shutters for THE BIG RE-OPENING; the third and most glorious season yet!

At 6pm on November 2nd, Day of the Dead, by the light of the full moon, the party begins in earnest…at Xaltemba Restaurant & Galería, all are welcome to attend.

This year’s altar will be erected in honor of our songbird Ja’Qui who flew away home earlier this year. The altar in
stallation and art work designed by Sarah Walker in the upstairs Gallery. Join us in celebrating Ja’Qui’s long and illustrious career as a singer in Seattle, San Francisco and Mexico, and her life and the lives of the departed to whom this day, perhaps the greatest of Mexican festivals, is dedicated. There will be drinks and dancing with the dead, and music from Los Frixoleros.

On Dia de Los Muertos, (Day of the Dead) Xaltemba’s celebrates its 2nd anniversary, and will also be officially welcoming up and coming Canadian chef, Mexican-born international gourmand, Pablo Espinosa de Los Monteros. Pablo joins us for the season from Vancouver where he has spent 8 years innovating with flavours from around the world, executed with Mexico-centric flair.

The gallery timetable, like the menu, is also rich and eclectic. On Saturday 7th November the Gallery will be turned back over to the living, beginning with a photography exhibition by renown Los Angeles Artist John Valadez. Future exhibits include… community art by Duane Flatmo and friends; Photography of Henrik Kam; the Barbie hall of fame, Eduardo Rodriguez Monterey Art Collection and The Mermaid Show Extravaganza among others.
