There are many great causes on Jaltemba Bay. We are blessed with a generous community that gives volunteer hours and lots of monetary support for those in need. Please scour down our list and contribute generously.

 Animal Rescueanimal

About the organization: The Animal Rescue Group is a well organized group of animal lovers that performs various community functions. As advocates for healthier animals and healthier communities the group organizes Spay in Neuter Clinics in the area and offers these services free of charge at the clinics. Additionally the group assists with the adoption and fostering of abandoned pets, offers educational information and help assist communities deal humanely with animals. A long term goal is to establish an ongoing animal clinic in the area.

Funds Collected: Money collected by various sources goes primarily to the community Spay and Neuter clinics supplies. Additional funds are required for food, supplies, transportation etc. No money is used for administration.

Other Donations: Various medical supply donations are gratefully accepted. Donations of FRONTLINE and REVOLUTION are always gratefully accepted.  Many of the animals in the Jaltemba Bay area suffer from flea and tick infestation. Ticks, in particular, cause the dogs to suffer from a disease called Ehrlicia, which is like Lyme disease in humans. Barbie Angel Projectbarbie

About the organization: Good used Barbie dolls are being sought. This project has evolved over the past four years beginning with the first donation of a couple of dozen dolls to more than 300 last year. The dolls have been collected by many barbie angels from thrift shops, garage and yard sales, friends, family and coworkers. After the volunteers receive them, they are given a total makeover, including bath, shampoo, new hairdo and clothed in new outfits which are hand crocheted original designs. They are then donated to the children in the Jaltemba Bay area through various local organizations.


Funds collected: Any money donated is strictly used to purchase yarn and other notions necessary to outfitting the dolls or for postage to mail dolls to their transportation source. All labor for this project is donated.

Other donations: Dolls, money to purchase basic materials, crafters to make new clothes for the dolls and transportation for the dolls from US and Canada to Mexico are always needed. If you wish to become a Barbie angel, help make new clothes for the dolls, make a donation, or request additional information about this ongoing project, you can email either of the volunteers who make this project possbile. Bridge for Lifebridge

About the organization: In January 2003 organizers developed fundraising events towards the building of the "Bridge for Life"; a small cable footbridge over the river between the communities of La Peņita de Jaltemba and Rincon de Guayabitos (Sol Neuvo in Rincon over the river to the end of Bahia Banderas, La Peņita) Previous to this time an average of one fatality per month occurred on highway 200 between these two communities.

Funds Collected: The bridge has been paid for but occasionally requires maintenance. There are currently no fundraising events slated for the bridge.

Other Donations: From time to time the bridge requires volunteers to work repairing the bridge. The last repair party was in January 2007.

La Casa de los Niņos

About the Organization:  La Casa de los Niņos was founded in 2005 and dedicated to the memory of Lauren, Matthew, Kailee and Cameron Spencer-Martinez.  La Casa is offered as a free year round resource center for the children of Lo de Marcos and surrounding communities to provide them an enrichment opportunity to learn and play.  The center has reading and study areas, computers, library, television, DVD/Tape player, educational games, kitchen and diverse arts and craft materials and workshops to provide a creative outlet for the children.  The center is operated and maintained by volunteers from the community, the States and Canada.

Funds Collected:  Monies collected by donations are utilized for rent, utilities, and supplies.  We have a dream of providing scholarships to those in need to pay for their high school education, the sponsorship of youth soccer teams and to further develop our library.  La Casa de los Niņos is registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit Public Charity in the United States.  Monetary donations can be sent to the Spencer-Martinez Memorial Fund, C/O Westamerica Bank, 800 Gravenstein Hwy., North, Sebastopol, CA 95472 USA or in person at La Casa de los Niņos.

Other Donations:  La Casa de los Niņos is dependent on contributions of monies, materials, supplies and volunteers.  La Casa's continuing needs are bilingual or Spanish language books, games and toys, computers/monitors, arts and craft materials, baking and cooking utensils and school supplies. We also depend on the energy and ideas of Volunteers to keep the center operating. We extend an invitation to visit www.lacasadelosninos.org or, if you are visiting the area, drop by La Casa. La Casa de los Niņos is located on Calle San Marcos, the first left turn after entering the main Avenida in Lo de Marcos.  La Casa’s days and hours are generally Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 5pm. EMS

About the organization: The EMS is operated by the State under the name of PROTECCION CIVIL Y BOMBEROS. The state supplies the men and pays them who are from Tepic and are trained Paramedic and Firemen (Bomberos). All the vehicles with the exception of 1 Ambulance are the property of the State and are maintained by them. They operate under a budget and it does not go as far as expected. Calls have increased to over 60 per month as they now serve the area between Las Varas and Los de Marco included the highway. The ambulance is a free service to all for emergencies and runs to either Las Varas Hospital or San Poncho. The State does not allow charging but they do ask for donations from the people that can afford it.

Funds Collected: Funds collected go towards extras that many expect from Emergency Services in the US and Canada. A Defibulator and Oximetors are examples of recent purchases.

Other Donations: Other donations are gratefully accepted. Wheelchairs, walkers and Crutches are lent to those in need. If you have a medical supplies or equipment you feel would be helpful, contact the phone numbers above. THE EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER IS 274-2992.

Entreamigosentre

About the organization: Entreamigos started in 2006 to bring educational opportunities to the children of San Francisco (San Pancho), Nayarit.  Through hard work and the dedication of many volunteers, entreamigos now operates a library, an art collective, a scholarship program and a very successful series of summer workshops.   Entreamigos works hard to create opportunities for the whole community (mexican, foreign, child, adult)  to actively work together for positive change and sponsors many community beautification projects, celebrations, workshops and cultural events. All of the services of entreamigos are provided free of charge.

Funds Collected: Funds collected go directly to our educational programs for children in the community. No funds are used for administration. Entreamigos is soon to be a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the States and is able to accept tax-deductible donations.

Other Donations:  Entreamigos is entirely funded by donations and almost completely run by volunteers. Entreamigos accepts donations of art supplies for their many free workshops, school supplies and teaching materials for distribution in schools, clothing and canned food for distribution to needy families and books (preferably in spanish) or computers for use in the library.  Entreamigos also appreciates any donations of paint (like extra house paint), tiles (broken okay), and tools of any sort for use in our community improvement and mosaic projects. Park of Angels

About the organization: Mateja is encouraging folks to join in the early planning of Project Playground. She has received permission and secured a parkland area in the residential area of Rincon beside the Tennis Courts that can be developed for this purpose. There are currently no playgrounds for children.

Funds Collected: Money collected will be used to develop the park. From planning and excavation; ground surface and drainage, to play equipment and benches. No money is used for administration.

Other Donations: Other donations are gratefully welcome. The group will be making various calls to the community to help build and provide labor for the grounds and equipment. If you have an idea or something suitable for a children’s playground please contact Mateja at her restaurant on the beach in Rincon de Guayabitos

Vickie Flores

About the organization: Vickie distributes goods to poor communities in Nayarit and provide the major lifeline to these families and individuals. Vickie is a nurse and knows where many of the sick and very poor live in the area. The recipients include schools, elderly, the sick and needy. Many visitors or part time residents bring down educational or base medical supplies and take them to Vickie for distribution.

 Funds Collected: Money collected is used to purchase food and other supplies in bulk for distribution. No money is used for administration.

Other Donations: Donations of all sorts are very welcome. Typically medical and school supplies are collected and brought to the area. Used clothes. Christmas gifts and toys. Yes Barbie dolls. Please write robertohowell@hotmail.com  if you have any questions.

 

 


Wheelchair and Walker Programwhellcvhair

About the organization: This organization collects and delivers wheelchairs, walkers and crutches for the needy in the area. Those traveling through Washington State can pick up equipment as they travel down the I-5.

Funds Collected: Funds are not collected for this program, rather medical supplies and equipment are collected, brought down – usually in RV’s, and given directly to the poor.
