Mexico’s intriguing interior routes – a plethora of changing landscapes and city experiences

Visit the northern cities; Monterrey – the third largest city in the country with the liveliest economy and thriving business or Chihuahua – the capital of the state and terminal for the famous Copper Canyon Railway. There are many more.

The silver colonial cities delight and inspire. Zacatecas – the capital city of the state with the same name, Aguascalienties, also a capital, San Miguel Allende – with its pink gothic cathedral and Guanaguato with mummies and tunnels and photos on every corner. Morelia, Patzquaro, Querretero…..the character of each of these and more are yours to savor.

Guadalajara deserves visits time and time again. The cento historical area is pedestrian friendly and within a few blocks you can explore the main cathedral, opera house, plazas, the governor’s palace and many art galleries and museums. The shopping is magnificent with the largest outdoor market in Latin America – the Libertad Market (also known as San Juan del Dios) just steps away from the plazas.

Mexico City is one of the largest and most intriguing cities in the world. Explore the main Zocalo and within meters, visit a major archeological site, Cathedral and the country’s most impressive mural. The museum of Anthropology, art galleries, shopping and dining experiences are second to none.

Southern Central Colonial Cities will delight you too! The summer city of Kings – Cuernevaca – has year round wonderful temperatures. Taxco is known world-wide for silver and silver craftsmanship. Oaxaca is the capital of the same name state and a wonderful place to discover the Indian side of Mexico. Explore the marketplaces, Monte Alba and neighboring towns. San Christobal de las Casas is developing quickly so visit it soon before more coffee shops and boutiques gentrify its raw Mexican character.

Spend time to do the real thing. Hike, swim, and take photographs. Explore the regions and meet the people. Small hotels are everywhere and RV parks are available close to most of the best tourist locations. The roads are excellent and getting better annually.
