San Juan Chamula Chiapas Photography Photography by Bill Bell To view photographs in larger format click on pictures San Juan Chamula is a Tzotzil Maya village a short drive outside of San Cristobal de las Casas. The church is famous for its unique way of blending traditional Maya beliefs with Catholic practices.You must buy a permit to visit inside the church. Photography inside of the church, photographs of religious officials and photographs of processions are prohibited. It is possible to take pictures of the outside of the church and on market day as long as the above restrictions are followed and you ask permission of any close up photos of people
