Dorothy Bell

MEXICO - On The Road In  is the brain child of my wife, Dorothy Bell.  I can take some pride in it though as I was the one who introduced Dorothy to Mexico way back in the mid 80’s.   She fell in love with it from the day she laid eyes on the palm lined beaches and smiling faces of its people.  We have never looked back, traveling by bus, car, air and motor home three to four times a year to every corner of the country.

Dylan Bell

We started driving to Mexico in a Volkswagen Westphalia. You can see a picture of our now teenage daughter Dylan above. As time progressed and our kids got older we purchased a trailer and then a Class C motor home.

In 2001, we spent four months circumnavigating the entire coastline of Mexico, gathering information and pictures for this web site.  Since that time we have traveled back four times, trying to cover as much ground as possible and visiting every known RV site in Mexico.   We currently travel with our two youngest children, Adam (16yrs) and Dylan (14yrs) who attend internet school over our 2 way satelite dish. Our eldest daughter Justine meets up with us when she can.

Dorothy’s background is an interesting one. She graduated from Simon Fraser University in the late 70’s in communications and almost immediately made her name as an urban environmentalist taking on the provincial duties of the Executive Director of the British Columbia  Recycling Council and then as the provincial Commissioner of Hazardous Waste Reduction where she won several international awards for her work in that field.

Dorothy has also been very active in local politics having been elected to both the Burnaby and North Vancouver School Districts as a trustee.  She also served one term as the Chair of the Burnaby School District. Dorothy has taught at Simon Fraser University, the North Vancouver Continuing Education Department as well as being the guest speaker at many international and nation conferences on the environment.

Dorothy can be reached at dot@ontheroadin.com

Bill Bell

Bill Bell is an avid photographer and traveler who first got a taste of Mexico as a young lad in the early 70's visiting his uncle who was serving time in Hermosillo Federal Prison (that's another story).  He's gone back as a journalist, tourist and RV companion to his wife Dorothy.

Bill's career is a mishmash of journalism, public relations and politics.  He has been a community newspaper editor, College Communication's administrator, an elected official in North Vancouver City and has run a successful public relations/government relations business in British Columbia, Canada.   He is most at home with a camera in his hand climbing Mayan ruins or strolling the cobbled streets of a Mexican Colonial City.

Of all Bill's accomplishments; his dedicated community service, political contributions and community development and photography; he is known as a wonderful father and companion, friend and husband. He is an adventurer and risk taker. He is my best friend and life partner.

Justine Bell

Justine is our eldest daughter who occasionally travels or meets up with us in Mexico. A graduate of Dalhousie University in International Developmental Studies, she is determined to change our world and make it a better place.

An avid traveler, she has experienced India, Belize, Cuba and Mexico for community development or furthering her education. She is bilingual and has studied at both San Cristobal de las Casas and the University of Havana. She also attended the Lester B. Person Peacekeeping Centre for an immersion program in Peacekeeping.

She can be reached in either Spanish or English at

Adam Caddell

Adam our wonderful teenage son pointed out that we didn't have a picture of him in this section, so we asked him which one he wanted to put in.  This is it.

Adam can always be talking to the senioritas everywhere. He enjoys water volleyball and football and going to the disco with his sister and friends throughout the country. He is a talented guy. He is a very good actor and comedian and has performed with stars such as EC Davies at San Jose del Cabo. He dances like a mad man and makes you laugh always.....

Dylan Bell

Dylan, or Eva as she prefers in Mexico, is a very determined lady. She knows what she wants and how to get her way. She is bright and beautiful; kind and considerate.

We have absolutely no doubt that she will excel at whatever career she decides is worthy. Right now however, she is content to surf, dance and travel.
